You knew the thread would be back again this year. Last offseason was so long ago so i don't remember. But are we in line for any compensation draft picks this year?

Don't think so. Even when we lost Renaldo Hill and Andre Goodman in FA, we signed Jake Grove, Joe Berger, Gibril Wilson and Eric Green (yuck!!!), so it's highly unlikely we could have any compensatory pick.

If we signed more FA than we lost then most likely we will not receive picks.

Someone did a more formal analysis on a previous post. They formulated that Miami might get a 7th after all is said and done. Even though we have signed more free agents, Wilson was actually let go the Raiders, we cut Green before he even played a snap, and Goodman and Hill both contributed significantly to Denver...this may tip the scale to a possible late comp pick.

With Pennington looking to extend his career for at least one more year, I wonder what we might get comp wise if someone actually scoops him up?

Remember that the only FA signings that count are those of players whose contract was simply expired, either if the were lost or acquired. Any player cut or waived by another team does not count in this formula.

That said, in 2009 the Phins signed: Jake Grove, Joe Berger & Eric Green.
Gibril Wilson does NOT count because he was let go by the Raiders.

In 2009, other teams singed the following players who were Phins FAs:
Andre Goodman, Renaldo Hill (Denver) and Al Johnson (NE).
David Martin does not count because he was waived and nobody signed him up.

Now, we have got a tie here, 3 lost against 3 singed. However other factors enter the equation, like snaps played, position on the depth chart, value of contract and there's also a date where the player has got to be still with the team, to enter the equation.

Although I do not know all these details, I *think* that a late compensatory pick could be a fair forecast, like a 7th or hopefully a 6th.

Now, is it too much to hope for the next Tom Brady? or Yeremiah Bell? or even the next Donald thomas? The next Lex Hilliard would be pretty fine too, if you think what it may be on the flip side .....

I also believe we'll be in line for a late round compensatory pick. The key is that incoming free agents include both Joe Berger and Jake Grove, while outgoing free agents include Andre Goodman and Renaldo Hill.

To me, that's like losing two starters and gaining one, because Berger only started and played games where Grove could not...whereas Goodman and Hill started next to one another all year long. Technically we lost 31 starts versus a gain of 16 starts, according to NFL.com's player pages.

This should be enough IMO to get a pick in exchange for the loss of Renaldo Hill, and considering the contract and the 16 start shortage...I would have to say that's either a 6th or 7th round pick.

can't we count vonnie hollyday too ? or was he cut ?

We have 3 6th round picks and two 7 rounders. Not all of those are via trades. I believe at least one 6 and 7 is a comp. I read that recently but can't remember where.

Since when do we have 3 6th round Picks? I was only aware of 2 6th Round Picks.
