I got cut
as a dolphin fan it is hard for me to admit buffalo is good at anything. however, i have thought that buffalo's run game is pretty good for the past 8 months or so. than i came across a stat that showed buffalo lost yards on 14.2% of there run plays last year. so desperately wanting to convince myself i am over estimating buffalo's run game i went to the numbers.
miami had 2502 yards which was 2nd in the nfl. 156.4 yards a game
buffalo had 1596 yards which was 24th in the nfl 99.8 a game
miami averaged 4.7 a carry which was 4th in the nfl
buffalo averaged 4.1 a carry which was 20th in the nfl
miami had 24 TD's on the ground which was 3rd in the nfl
buffalo had 17 TD's on the ground which was tied a 9 in the nfl
it should be noted that miami averaged 8.9 more attempts on the ground a game than buffalo had.
top backs
williams att 383 yards 1853 ave. 4.8 td 16
henry att 325 yards 1438 ave. 4.4 td 13
miami wins in every stat
back ups combined
minor-edwards att 64 yards 287 ave. 4.5 td 3
Bryson att 13 yards 35 ave. 2.7 td 0
miami wins in every stat
qb's
fiedler/lucas att 64 yards 225 ave. 3.5 td 5
Bledsoe att 27 yards 67 ave 2.5 td 2
miami wins in every stat
the buffalo fan could argue that the reason is because there pass game was so good last year. but wouldn't that mean that kept the D's they played more honest and held the DE at check and kept the SS back? and miami's weak passing attack meant DE could be more aware of the runningback and the SS could crowd the box? despite this, miami still averaged more a carry than buffalo further showing miami's running game dominance.
anyways, i think these numbers show 2 things,
1. i have over estimated buffalo's run game.
2. i have to much time on my hands.
