I mean after having a bad injury as both players at a high demand position, Willis took a year off football to fully rehabilitate. I know you might have all seen him doing squats and all but no one will know the extend of an injury until they break their knee again. Willis had a major tear and managed to become years later a top back in the afc. It makes me wonder about Dante coming back from his injury and if he should take a year off but he can't because we need him now.

Its different for a QB than a RB, As a Rb you need to make quick cuts and get hit EVERY play, Also Willis had a more severe injury type im pretty sure , If Daunte isnt ready to start he wont, simple as that

I'm not completely positive, but I'm almost sure that McGahee tore a bunch of cartilage in his knee as well. I think that he likely could've have played sometime midway or late in the 2003 season, but was put on reserve b/c of Henry's excellent play that year, meaning there was no need to rush him back.

And they knew that they were going to trade Henry in the near future too. They were boosting his stock.

But like Alex said, the injury is different for a QB and a RB.

It'd be like if Willis and Daunte both had torn rotator cuffs. Willis could jump right back from that. Daunte would have to take it slowly because he has to throw.

Not to mention that Culpepper has almost taken a full year off of football (his injury was in October, he wont be playing until September) so he's had a long time to recover, not to mention his recovery has been going better then expected. He'll be fine.

it will probably take him a year though until his scrambling is back to where it was a year ago. he will be more of a pocket passer this year which isn't really a bad thing

McGahee had one of the most gruesome injuries I've ever seen...second to Theismann's leg. Mcgahee's lower leg spun around so his foot was facing the opposite direction it should have been. I'm still impressed that McGahee ever came back from that. Even though on paper Culpepper's injury is just as bad, Daunte at least could walk off the field.

Is it possible that the doctors learned a lot from McGahee's injury and applied what they learned to the Peps injury which may have resulted in a faster recovery? Doesn't how each person react to such an injury also play a major role in this?

I heard Pep say his doctor did a lot of knot tying. He made it seem like this was something new. Obviously I'm not doctor maybe someone can shine some light on this?

Wow, I was about to scroll down to the quick replay and type that exact same thing. Very wierd because I was even going to say "not to mention." Freaky.

But like you say it will have been 10 months come September so if you want Daunte to take this whole season off it would total almost 2 years of no football.

It is what it is. I would be surprised to see him start the season, but, I agree with OHall that different people come back in different ways and who's to say they didn't learn something after Willis' injury to help them better reconstruct Daunte's.

You know what I noticed in the injury to Culpepper?? I just saw the injury on tape the other day and I saw an angle I've never seen before. Dauntes foot wasn't stuck in the ground through the whole hit, it released. I honestly think Dauntes injury was minimized by this. Also Willis's injury was from the front and his knee was fully hyper extended in the oposite direction it normally bends. Dauntes injury was from the side. The two injuries were different, not to mention the two players use their legs differently. I think Daunte should heal quicker given the extent of the injury, IMO.

I like when we discussed this before and after I gave my (usual) dissertation on how everyone in the media and fans missed the boat on Daunte's recovery time, someone pointed out that in the media Daunte's recovery time has been getting longer every time they tell it like the story of Paul Bunyan or somethin.

Heh. Wasn't it originally 9 months, which so happens to coincide with the start of TC...and then it stretched to like 10-12 months, and now 12-16 months?

Seriously, when are people in the media going to wake up and realize that a QB doesn't put near as much strain on an injured knee as a RB, WR, CB, or LB? According to the official stat sheet, Frerotte took only 26 sacks, and only got hit on 11 pass attempts. How do you compare 37 tackle shots to a runner that has to carry the ball up the gut like 300 times in a season???

That Willis injury was one of the ugliest injuries I've ever seen on film.

I'm a huge Canes fan and I watched the game live, when they showed the replay I nearly got sick watching it in slow motion.
