Comparison between Matt Cassel and Tyler Thigpen

Interesting article on Thigpen's 2008 season vs. Cassel's 2009 season. Before someone blows a gasket, I AM NOT advocating making Thigpen the starter. I am only saying we may have 2 potentially good QBs on the roster.

I can't see where Cassel had the same tools as Thiggy (hello TonyG and DwayneB), although Cassel had a suprisingly better running attack.

Be that as it may, Cassel might work out fine: he's a system QB, just like Brady is and if Pioli can emulate the system he helped install in NE, Cassel will feel a lot more at home than would have Thigpen. Incidentally but relatedly, anyone remaining who still really thinks that Brady is comparable to P Manning is delusional or probably roots for the Cheatriots.

Thigpen ran the spread and pistol about every play possible.

Cassel actually has to use a running game.

Interesting read. To be fair the Cheifs suck and no QB is going to look good there until they get some more protection up front and a few more weapons. However, I think that Cassel would have had the better numbers if he had T. Gonzalez (sp?) to throw to like Thigpen did.

Never the less, I agree with you that Thigpen is a solid player and we are a better team with him.

The caveat is that this success came in an offense the Phins will never implement so long as Henne is the established starter.

This was a very interesting read...

Thigpen is a solid back up...and can hold down the fort if needed...

Not sure if Cassel will ever be a good qb..
He was def the product of a system and had redic weapons around him...

Randy Moss made Caulpepper look crazy..

Wes Welker made Joey Harrington look ok at times..

The funny thing that the Chiefs did was trade a 2nd rounder for a guy that really might not be all that great..

Then they take one of his best weapons away...Tony G..

I understand they got good value for Tony but dont complain when you go 4 and 12?

To Cassels Creidt when the Chiefs got Chambers he started to come on a bit...

The other thing I beilive is that the Phins Stole thingpen..Your getting a solid backup with game and starting experience for a 5th rounder...

Chiefs may never have that in Croyle and may end up spending a 5th or higher for a decent backup.

There are a lot of K.C. fans who believe the better QB was traded.

Would like to know where they are. The papers and fan base from day 1 of the Cassel trade were pretty hyped. Most did likeThigpen for a backup, but in no way did Thigpen earn the trust of the KC fan base.

But what do I know? I just get the KC Star and the Topeka papers. And am surrounded in Chief country.

I was thinking that the article would contain a bit more analysis, but all it did was ramble and list a couple stats and then say "see?". I do think that the Cassel vs. Thigpen argument is very valid, and its obvious that Cassel pretty much blew this year. If I were a Chiefs fan, I'd certainly be looking at those trades and regretting it. But Matt Cassel is not a Dolphin QB, so without really giving any good reasons why Thigpen could be a viable option at QB I don't think this adds anything to a debate about his role on the team.
