I was just sitting here thinking about our current QB situation and came to a good reason John Beck should start Day 1, I am sure there are more so lets hear your decisions.

I keep forgetting this is Year 1 of Cam's system. We are not building upon anything from years past. We have gutted the offense of some key players and have an all new offensive team and mindset, and some speed burners now.

Everyone is on the same page, Daunte, Lemon, and Beck (green may come, but honestly I hope not.. unless he wins us the superbowl and I can change my mind :) )

From Day 1 the playing field is even, Beck is a FAST learner and a smart level minded GOOD CHARACTER Leader, and the offense will follow his lead. He's a guttie player and the offense will have to step up to his toughness or he WILL get in there faces unlike some of the other guys we had since DAN...

With a new offensive line, new T.E and new wide receivers everyone will need time to gel. We are not predicted or expected to win the superbowl this year so the pressure to WIN TODAY is not on beck, we let him grow the offense or possibly Tear it up Year 1.

Yes we might be rushing him, but hes not 21 or 22 I think mentally he can handle it, if our Oline can keep him on his feet...

Hmm...

I can see it either way. It'd be nice to see him out there on the field doing his thing, but it would also be nice seeing him safe on the bench for a year while one of the vets gets battered around behind our unproven line.

Regardless, he needs to win the job. He needs to be the best option at QB - It shouldn't be handed to him.

ease the kid in slowly. no reason to get him killed in week one behind our line.

Well, hopefully our line will be better this year, but I don't care how good you are in college. NFL is a whole new level, and twice as fast as college ball. If Beck is ready to start by next year, I'll be happy. Of coarse, there are exceptions to the rule, like Eli Manning and a handful of others that are ready to start from day one. Usually that is because the team has no other options. Jamarcus Russell will probably start because he will cost the Raiders a buttload of cash, and they need to have him produce, this year.

Well if we do not get Trent Green I say we have no other choice, why get a young team adjusted to another QB only to switch it up again next year?

No way would I start him Day 1.
The one thing that EVERY rookie QB says after his first game is how much faster the NFL is. He has to get his feet wet sometime, but if we really are hoping that Beck is the Phins QB for the next decade or so then I would much rather have him learn the system, watch the vets, and maybe play some garbage time in games where the threat of getting creamed isnt so great before throwing him in full time.
Also, as you said...its a whole new system and even if it wasnt, our offensive line is being shuffled once again. Vernon Carey is now our L tackle...a position vital to the health of the QB, but a position Carey has failed at in the past.
Until the line gets settled in their positions and comfortable with the new system, I would rather have one of the QBs that probably wont be a Phin in a year or 2 anyway take the hits as opposed to Beck, who is hopefully the future of the francise.

Been happening ever since Marino retired. Every year we go in with two-three former backup QBs or gimps and go thru the same mid-season drama where we start chanting someone's name as soon as the guy in there throws an INT.

I think we may still be able to land Green, even though it will probably be on the last day possible. I wouldn't be surprised if Cam slipped TG a copy of our play book for him to study while being held hostage by KC.

Cpep is looking better and better every day and I hope Cam hasn't given up on him just yet. So if we do land Green and Cpep is 100% healthy, as is Beck, that's going to probably create quite a bit of drama at weeks 6-8.

I think we should take our time with Beck, by mideason lets see whats up and maybe give him some time then.

Yeah, we'll see how he does in preseason when we put him in at the end of a game with the third stringers and guys fighting for roster spots. That will get his feet wet, and show the coaches how ready he may be by mid season. My guess is that he is going to be a sponge and soak in all the C-pep or Green can show him, and we'll see him in there next year. But ya never know, he may be ready from day 1. I hope he is!

Sometimes you have to take off your kid's "floater's" and kick them into the deep end of the pool and say "SWIM!!!!!!!!!"

They learn quickly that way. I am tired of caudling and babying our players. Put him in there and he will learn quickly. He is 26 years old.....I think he has the smarts and athleticism to start right away. I am not expecting playoffs next year, but I think 8-8 is realistic, and then next year we win it all.

yeah under that same mentality of we're not under an "expected to win" pressure this year, i think that means we can also wait to put beck in until he's ready. we don't need to win now, so give him some time to adjust before we pull a carr on him. then again, if he's our best qb in camp come september, i'm all for it

Just because everyone is on the same level of learning the offense, doesn't mean that they are on the same level of adjusting to the NFL game and life in the NFL in general.

Wait until at least midseason, then evaluate the team's post season chances before putting in Beck.
