............... it's all about the man's contract. In the NFL today, you almost never get a player of Ricky's calibur at that kind of price. The only time you ever see that is either when a rookie who's broken out, but still playing under a rookie contract or when a veteran gets cut in a cap move late in the offseason. That's it. With the stunt Ricky pulled, he has almost no bargaining chips and has appeared to accept his fate with it.

A team like Denver is salivating over the idea of obtaining a guy like Ricky. They're currently around 30 million over the cap with many personnel decisions to make. Having been to the AFC Championship game this year, they're not about to only blow up the team and go thru mediocrity for a few years. Instead, as you've seen with the T.O. flirtation, they're trying to aquire players who'd allow them to compete for a title even after they make some of those difficult personnel moves to get under the cap. Both players, Owens and Ricky, will be two of the cheapest gamebreakers you will ever see step onto a football field next season.

For a team willing to roll the dice and take chances on a player like Ricky, a late 1st rounder IS the price. That's my opinion. You will never get a back like that anywhere for the veteran's minimum. His contract is indeed the over-riding factor to his past transgressions. We simply would not benefit from trading him, in any way shape or form, unless we recieve an impact draft pick.

You couldnt have said it any better..

I too agree, very well stated on all accounts.

What everyone seems to not understand is that his current contract isnt going to be what he plays for through out the rest of his career, he played for that low of a contract because of his situation, he has now solidified himself as a solid running back again and will want a new contract.

I have to agree here, I just don't think he's going to continue to play for the minimum when he definitely could and should be making more. Think of it this way.......... If you quit your job right before a busy time of the year and then came back next year and was one of the very best employees in the entire company for the whole year would you still want to be making minimum wage???

Yes I believe you are right. And isn't it interesting that one of the best teams for building runners wants Ricky anyway. I think it is funny to say he has no value as others have.

I agree that he won't be playing for minimum wage next year. However, he will still be very cheap for his value. Obviously Denver does not care about a player's personal situations (Maurice Clarrett, TO), and they know they'll be able to make him into a star running back again over there. However, they will still be able to use his situation as a negotation. I agree that Ricky Williams is very valuable to a Denver team who is way over the cap.

I agree 100%....

And from what I've read, the Bronco's aren't willing to trade a first rounder, or even a "first day pick" for Ricky. Anything less than a firsat rounder is an insult IMO...

PHINZ RULE!!!

To correct everyone here

Anyone who trades for TO doesnt get him cheap, they assume his contract.

Considering you just said they are way over the cap, I would assume they would be more interested in Ricky's salary

This is the 2nd thing you've said that I actually agree with. Well said! If we can't get a first rounder, we should keep him.
