compensatory draft picks

Nope. Probably not, I don't know the exact numbers but seeing as how Saban tried to rebuild too quickly (through FA) I doubt that we lost more FA than gained last season.

no..we lost little last year and signed a bunch of players

Comp picks are very irregular in the league, and personally, their not worth going after. Even when trying to build through the draft, refraining from signing solid players in FA just to get comp. picks is just dumb.

Seeing how the compensatory picks are given by the league, I don't get your statement here.

their given to teams based on how many FA's they lost and how many they picked up in an offseason. Therefore teams purposely dont pick up free agents and let all theirs go in order to receive Comp. picks from the league.

The league gives them out based on numbers, they don't hand pick the teams they like and give them picks.

(although with the way the patriots seem to get them you wouldn't think so...)

If you sign players who have been cut, the league does not count that against you when handing out compensatory picks. The patriots in years past have avoided signing unrestricted free agents and focused more on cap casualties to give themselves the best shot at being compensated by the league.

Miami will not get any this year.

Next year they might as they had a "LOT" of low level free agents. However if they sign K Jay and LB Porter I doubt they would afterwards as Porter's signing would offset.

Yeah, get ready for more of that. This is the draft that the Pats get compensatory picks for last year's FA crop where they lost Givens, Vinatieri, McGinest, Andruzzi, etc. I'm thinking they'll get at least one 3rd round pick out of it. Probably one of the reasons they were willing to cough up extra picks for Welker.

the signing of porter would not have an impact, as he was cut. Only players whose contracts expire making them ufa's count in the compensation process.
