Does anyone have a good idea whether or not we'll get any compensatory picks and where they may be?

Not 100% sure, but I don't think the actual picks are announced until after
the NFL owners meetings in March. I doubt we will get any comp picks.

I am not sure about that. We should get at least a fourth for Sammy Knight.

I think we signed to many Free Agents to be rewarded any comp picks.

Seems like we never get any.

Sucks, doesn't it?!? I think we have to actually have more freeagents
depart than ones that we sign in order to qualify.....

And why the heck are they referred to as "FREE'-agents,
when they costs so darn much??

please infrom me what a compensatory pick actually is? ive heard it before, but never fully understood it....

We will recieve none. The team signed more FA's then it lost and that's the #1 breaker for getting comp picks. The team brought in a higher quality of FA's then those lost also (trading Surtain doesn't factor. Only those that were legitimately lost to FA).

Free agents are NFL vets with atleast four acquired years of eliglibility.
Basically, if a team LOSES more free agents than they sign, that team is awarded comp picks to make up for the loss.

Ah, now I understand. I thought it was based solely on who you lose with no regard to free agent pickups

All, as quoted from an article on ESPN about NFL Compensatory picks:

"Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The formula was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula."

Based on this statement alone, it does not matter how many guys you lose or sign, it depends on the quality of the player, how much playing time they received, etc.

So, there is still a chance we may get a pick or 2 for Greenwood and Knight.
