Last year's team frequently failed to play complementary football. When the defense was struggling and winded, the offense could not sustain a drive to give them a rest. When the offense scored a go ahead touchdown in the final quarter, the defense was not able to get a stop. When I look at the moves as a whole, the goal appears to achieve this goal.

Suh is a defensive star that frequently excels in difficult moments. McCain played well as a starter at CB for the Steelers. This defense is better on paper, and it appears to have a better chance of achieving the goal of complementing the offense.

There is more work that has to be done on offense. Cameron should help the ability to score in the red zone, and it was one of the problems last year. He has stepped up in big moments for the Browns, so he may help with complementing the defense. Stills should catch more deep balls from Tannehill than Wallace. He tracks the ball and makes plays on balls, and Wallace never showed an ability to do that. For Tannehill, I believe that Stills is a better fit.

If the front office signs a capable OG and some tier two FA, then the Dolphins have the chance to be good. They need a balanced team with some star players. They need a team that can win with consistent complementary football.

Complementary football in my opinion comes down to the head coach. You have the offense and defense each trying to do the best they can on their sides of the ball, but once in a while they need support. Joe Philbin's job is to be the link between them that observes the gameflow and says to each of his coordinators, "We need you to support the other side of the ball on this drive" as needed.

I think Joe is afraid to do this. I think we have two VERY strong-willed coordinators who don't like being told what to do. I think this schism plays itself out regularly in games. Joe has one season to correct this and grow a pair.

You raise a very good point. Play calling for both offense and defense are an important part of complementary football. I agree that there are some inexplicable calls made in these game situations, and I agree that Philbin is responsible for making sure that bad calls do not happen.

The other component is players making a play when it counts. My point is that Suh and Cameron have a history of making big plays when it counts. Last year Dallas Thomas, Shelley Smith, Colledge were blown into the backfield on key plays. Starks and Odrick were blown off the ball on key running downs. Part of complementary football is the talent on the field.

The problem is we have weekend at Bernie's as our head coach.

He is a propped up corpse leading this team.

It's so heart breaking to true fans like myself.

I feel SOOO screwed over. I want to be excited about all these moves and what we are doing as a team, but I could dig a dude out of the grave yard and get better post game speeches then this guy gives.

Also the team lacks creativity - ingenuity - a real direction.

Complimentary football when we are 8 and 8 year and year out and keeping weekend at Bernie's for another season just shows how little the top of this organization cares about us fans!

Just sayin!!!

That paper must have only one name on it...Suh. Tell me where else has this defense gotten better? We not better overall on the defensive line with the loss of Starks and Odrick because we now lack depth. We're not better at DE because Wake is another year older and disappeared at times last year...Adding Suh might help him but OV faced a lot of one-on-one situations last year and didn't win. We're not better at linebacker because Jenkins and Misi are still starting and we have no SLB and only 4 linebackers total. We're not better at CB because McCain is a slot corner who rated terribly on the outside and Jamar Taylor still can't get healthy and play a full season...heck he only played about 5 games last year which was 5 more than the year before and Will Davis is awful. We're not better at Safety because we have no one next to Reshard Jones. So tell me again how we're better on paper?

And the defense was winded last year cause they couldn't get off the field on 3rd down. The offense led the league in the least amount of 3-and-outs. If our defense was winded because of the offense then every other team should have been even worse.

Yeah, Philbin needs to get Lazor to call more first down and TD plays and Coyle to call more tackle, sack and turnover plays when our team needs it. It's that easy and it's all on the coaches.

I would be happy if we can stop the run and not go to check down's so often
