I was thinking of this while watching the UF vs. GA game. You guys know when during a game some kind of gadget play is run and the announcer says "I watched them run this play in practice and...."? Well I was thinking what is the benefit to the coach and to the team to have a member of the media watching your practice and how can you be sure he/she won't leak out that info? I mean, call me paranoid but how can they be so sure this type of stuff doesn't happen?

How would it help?

"The Dolphins like to run a misdirection play to the right and they also like Chambers on a skinny post." So? Theres also about 1000 different formations and plays we can run.

If a team is relying on that then they are in deep trouble.

So then why do they close practice to the public during the season?

Because they dont need the fans seeing certain players getting their a$$es chewed off by Saban (see the Manny Wright incident) and other "family business". The media knows better then to leak this kind of stuff, because if it gets out, then its quite obvious who told anyone because they are the only ones there. Same goes for telling the opposition about plays.

Probablly just for focus and for a different atmosphere. But thats just a opinion. I have no idea.

I think the reason they close practice is that they don't want the other team to know what they're game plan will be for that week because if they know, they can prepare for it. I know you pretty much have a base offense but they prepare each week differently based on their opponent. I don't think they want "scouts" posing as fans watching what's going on but that may be the paranoid side of me talking.

The Dolphins coaching staff keeps practices off-limit to the public for the following reasons:

1. Don't want public to see that O-Line sucks during practice too.
2. Don't want opposing team to see secret play: give ball to running back lose 2 yards.
3. Want to avoid Fire-Department from stopping practice because DBs continuously getting burned qualifies as a fire-hazard.
4. Want to avoid players from hearing public chant "Sage, Sage, Sage".
5. Don't want public hearing Sage chant "Sage, Sage, Sage".

you're over analyzing. most coaches know exactly what a team is gonna try and do to his team. If you're marty shottenheimer, what kind of defense are you expecting to see? about 8 guys in the box almost all the time. heavy blitzing from anywhere and everywhere.

however, saban isn't like most coaches. thats why he closes the practices to the public. he wants to surprise EVERYONE. from the oposing coach, to each fan at the game. saban is the kind of coach who will never run the same kind of defense for too long. He'll be hard to gameplan for.

Don't most teams close practice to the public during the season? If so, how is Saban being different than most coaches? I know that Saban is very secretive and likes to keep a secret like injuries, who's starting, etc.
