I’m starting to get some real negative thoughts about the cap space that we created. I was listening to sports radio a day or so ago and it was pointed out that due to a lot of teams franchising players and the weak free agency pool that there is going to be a lot of trades done this off season. I see this coming to light already. There has been several trades and plenty of people given permission to shop themselves around. With that said I would assume that due to the position the we are in that we may not partake in the trade frenzy mainly because we don’t have a large stock of good players and we need to keep as many of our picks as possible if not get more.

Where does that leave Miami? Well we created the space for a reason. My concern is either we created it to sign big named FA (fanica / Adams / or Samuals) not that this is a bad thing because I would love to have both Adams and Fanica but right now I just don’t see the benefit of the cap space.

Anybody care to shed some light on this situation?

when you go 1-15 does it really matter?

we don't have to spend it and we have to put together 3 good drafts to rebuild

don't sweat the cap space

our cap space is money if we don't go blow it all on older or big money, all about me guys. hoping we keep it young and build from the ground up. we should not be caught up in any type of FA frenzy or hype or whatever this year.

Or we can stay at #1, pick the top g uy, give him the huge contract necessary, and let alot of it hit the cap this year, so that we dont get stuck paying for him 5 years from now when we are a contender

We don't have to spend it all this year. all those players that are getting usually accept it because they won't be tagged next year. I wouldn't be surprise if we sign both Faneca and Adams but I don't think we would overspend on CB(10 million a year my....)We could sign both faneca, adams and Bryant JOhnson for 15 million and keep the rest for the draft picks and next year when great free agents become available.

Anyways free agency is not the way to build a team and the fact that many are staying away from them may lower their price tag in the future.

this is what i was thinking but I know nothing about the salery cap and how it works.
I was thinking we made the room to get Matt Ryan he will demand large money due to J Russel last year - QB taken 1st overall. I woudl think that Long (either one of them) could not demand 35 mil.

Any first pick overall will command around 30 mil guaranteed. I really really really hope that we dont pick Matt Ryan. We need a sure fire player, either Jake Long or Chris Long in my opinion. The game is won in the trenches, we need to build our offensive and defensive lines

Heck also you have to remember the Owners are going to likely opt out of this CBA anywhere, then making everything accelerated into 09

With a non cap year in 2010 to add to the mix as well. How does that effect teams that are close to the cap in the accelerated 09???

Actually their would be about a 20-25 million$ differance in Ryan and Long. Jake Long would probably cost more than Chris Long because his agent would demand that his client is a LT while many experts is leaning toward right T. Jake would cost about 10 million more than Chris and we wouldn't even know which tackle he would solidify or if he would solidify it. I beleive Mario Williams got about 42 mill so thats what Chris would be looking at give or take. LT's is hard to come by so take Jake to 54 mill and Ryan would want the 65 mill at least that Jamarcus got. We would be cheaper taking the guy that we know what POSITIONS he can play and has the benefit of playing in our system for 4 years.

I don't want the #1 pick in 2010. That is for damn sure.

that is a good question, what is the punishment for teams who cannot mathematically get under the cap?

I would have to think that they need to release players to meet the cap.

Leaving a good number of players available in the 09 offseason

I meant teams that can't get under the cap no matter what.

if all your amortized bonuses come to roost, it won't matter who you cut which is a problm for those close to the cap

That I have no idea. I know there was a report that I read somewhere if this did happen redskins would have to fill their 53 man roster with about 25-30 rookies
