fellow fins i always wear the aqua colored glasses and have the homerism. i see potential in the season despite alot saying we're not in contention and we shouldnt be signing older players and develop the younger guys for 1-2 years down the road...

Convince me and the other homers that we're not a contender this year...

i think starting QB will be between garrard and moore (if tannehill wins it more power to him, cant wait to see the kid play) garrard is only a missed season away from playoff calibar QB'ing and Moore has proven he can win in the league. Garrard didnt have recievers and even though i pull for carolina cause they are home team (not my team but home team so i pull for them to win) Moore has steve smith who can ruin a qb's confidence. he doesnt have the rep but yes he does, he treated moore and clausen horrible

RB....Bush has the superbowl veternship, slaton is a good blocker when healthy and not a horrible runner, DT showed promised and miller was a BPA luxury pick, and teams dont take luxury picks when they are preparing for the future...even if they were preparing for miller to be out younger cheaper bush.....not a bad plan

at TE fasano is NOT a bad TE, not everyone can have gronkowski, but fasano is in the top 3rd of league as starting TE's i feel, CLay will fit in perfectly and hopefully Egnew can be a hernadez type TE. Without recievers with breakaway speed i see us in some 3 TE sets near the goaline and im hoping those 3 can work out

WR....well we know we are near bottom of league. Most teams in league would have bess and hartline has 3's MAYBE a 2. but the thing is, 2's and 3's get single coverage. these guys have proven they can get open in single coverage. maybe not the long ball but WCO is about possession then trying to make something happen. Hartline couldnt make anything happen cause it seemed like most his catches he was having to hit the ground or tiptoeing sideline. Bess was all about the middle. it'd be nice if ocho could at least chip in about 40 receptions but noone is holding breath for that. if at least one reciever can show he can contribute about 40 recepetions during preseason i think even though not great we'll be fine at reciever

OL....Colombo is gone...sweeeeet, martin might not be the best being a rookie, but if he gives up half the pressure colombo did then its a plus. Long is in a contract year, pouncey has another year under him, i think reggie and the rest of the backs should have another good season. whoever qb is should be glad the turnstile at rt is gone, even if martin doesnt start then who ever replace colombo SHOULD be an improvement.

DL...IM really hoping and thinking that the DL can resemble something of trace armstrong, JT, TImbo, and gardener......are DT's are STOUT with starks and solai, and hopefully odrick can turn into the next trace with wake taking all the attention on opposite side.

LB...LB scares me, but with the two beast DTS pressure should be kept off dansby so he can roam like ZT....not saying he will be ZT but he should have pressure kept off him. the other two positions worry me some but hopefully with a new coaching staff personal can be different and we dont see burnett being lined against players he cant cover and misi showing signs of his rookie year flashings

DB...if smith can remember he used to be a reciever at utah and can come down with a pick or four that could be +2 or 3 wins in the column, a couple dropped picks wouldve been difference last year, if davis can stay healthy and get his mind straight i really feel he could be a top tier corner. both safety positions are up for grabs and that scares me more than any other position on the team, jones is go big or go home, i think clemons can give up the deep without letting it be a homerun.....think wilson is also a little bit of go big or go home.

ST...we have no clue other than carpenter or fields. im confident with them both kicking. think we'll give miller a shot at KR and who knows at PR....as much as Bess disappointed me at PR he was consitent. No biggies but no mistakes.

SO yes......i know we havent even gotten to training camp or preseason yet, but try to convince this homer that we are not contenders. everyone is contenders at 0-0 but show me how we're worse than the others. We have a team with both a new offense and new defense that no other team in league has game film on us running, we have a few players at important positions in a contract year....BIGGIE......moore, bush, long, fasano, hartline.....

Pats are aging and we almost beat em last year, they gotta faulter eventually, Jets are the JESTS, they are worried more about pretty plays for tebow than working a real offense and developing sanchez if thats possible, and even with the offseason pickups the bills are still the jillls, mario is almost the same player as wake, he'll over pursue and allow the inside run, who would you rather have on an overpursued DE play reggie bush or jackson....even though jackson did have a good year....ill take bush.

if one of the 3 qbs can do the their thing im saying we can advance in playoffs........

now prove me wrong without saying <sigh> offseason post

I won't try to convince you because I feel we are definitely contenders this year. When I say contenders I don't mean a first round exit. On paper this team has enough talent to beat anyone. It's just about putting everything together, obviously easier said than done but this team has enough to win it all this year.

If it's not this year, it will be soon.

Our biggest improvement will be from an area you did not cover-- COACHING!!!

Addition by subtraction by just getting rid of Morono alone! Not to mention Philbin seems determined to make a name for himself by getting the most out of his guys...

red flags:
No #1 WR is a huge blow
? at LB and safety
Obviously a QB battle, too

pluses:
COACHING
OL should be much improved
I think we will be surprised at how lethal are new TEs are this year (Clay and Egnew especially)
RB position should be exciting- cant wait to see Lamar Miller break some long runs.... Look for similar production from Reggie and an improvement from DT
new quick paced offense should have our guys well conditioned and catching Ds off guard

So, I agree to some extent. I think we see a better team on the field than last year

I agree somewhat I also belive we have some good young talent but....... As much as like fasano he's not a top 3 TE, gronk tony G jimmy graham Vernon Davis. I could keep going

He said top third in the league not top 3 TEs

Defense will be ranked in the top 8 if not top 5 due to letting Dansby roam or "Search & Destroy" Smith will have 5+ interceptions this year( would have had 10 last year/ drops )
Offense will be ranked in the top 15 due greatly to the "No-Name" Wide receivers
Special Teams will be in the top 10 due to punting and field goal consistency as well as finding that diamond in the rough "Mathews" returning punts
Just sayin'

Lets just focus on making the playoffs first..

Pretty simple...

No one knows who will start at QB, that tells you there we are not contenders.

We will be competitive but contenders we're not, at least not yet!

There is a BIG difference between what is POSSIBLE, and what is PROBABLE. Yes it is true everything you said is POSSIBLE (except for Fasino being top 3rd in the league, that is obsurd), and it is also POSSIBLE that the colts could win the superbowl this year, but both are highly unlikely. If you are a fan who bases his expectations on what is possible you are setting yourself up for much pain and mental anguish. You become like the $20.000 a year worker who finds a way to justify spending half his paycheck every week on a lottery ticket because "hey that guy is just like me, if he could win so could I". But that isn't the way life works.

To be more realistic you have to look at things from a more logical mathematical point of view. Let's try it that way, I will ask the questions and YOU do the answer. And I think I can prove that even YOU don't truely believe that this is superbowl contending team this year.

1. How many first year coaches take their teams on a deep playoff run?? Above 50% or below?? (not has it ever been done, but what percentage)

2. How many first year OCs come in and get their team on the same page without a learning curve. In other words, "are on the same page from week one?? If you are asking that we are a playoff contender we can't wait until week 8 like last year before we are up to speed and clicking on all cylinders. So what percentage, above or below 50%??

3. Same question as #2 with DCs. How many come with no learning curve, playing their best ball week one, above or below 50%??

4. How many teams with 3 different QBs fighting for the starting QB position before the season, went on the win a superbowl?? Not has it ever happened but what percentage compared to teams with the position already decided?? Above 50% or below??

5. How many teams drafted in the top 10 and turned around the next year and won the superbowl?? Above 50% or below??

If you can honestly answer "ABOVE 50%" to all five questions then you proved me wrong and you truely DO believe we are a contending team this year. Otherwise even YOU believe we are a longshot.

What annoys me is when fans who are willing to go against everything logical to say their team is going to be the best this year and that anyone who disagrees is some how less of a fan. Blindly predicting something that is illogical, and highly unlikely, does not make you a better fan, it makes you look football ignorant. Now I am not saying you ARE football ignorant, just that when fans say stupid things it makes them look a certain way. Let me show you what I mean, if you are on a flight and are setting beside a colt fan who keeps telling you why his/her colts are going to the superbowl this year, what is going to be your opinion of that person when you can finally get away from them?? I seriously doubt you are going to be wanting this fan as your next dolphins coach, or wondering why he wasn't a sports reporter.

Is it POSSIBLE that come superbowl sunday that Philbin is holding up a Lombardi trophy?? Yes it is, but PROBABLE??? Sorry but I have to go with NO. That does not make me less of a fan, just a little more realistic.

Just focus on making the playoffs first which with our schedule is a distinct possibility. Anything further and we're dreaming at this stage.

You typed an awful lot for it to be easy for me to say we are not contendors this year. Would love for a 49ers turn around, but I don't see it this year. I 100% believe we are headed in the right direction though.

Defense will be ranked in the top 8 if not top 5
Wanna bet on that?? We have an offense that will be on and off the field in record breaking time. Our defense will be on the field ALOT. They would have to be twice as good as they were last year to post the same kind of numbers. Even with the easy schedule we won't be top 8, or top 10 for that matter. What kind of defense did we have before Nolan got here?? That is what we are looking at now. People just aren't giving Nolan the type of respect he deserves. He did ALOT with a little. We are changing over to a 4-3 with a cordinator that is very unknown as a cordinator. We know what he is as a DBs coach but what kind of concepts does he have and can he install them in a way that the players can understand?? We have holes at both safties, the #2 CB, outside LB and depth on DL. We have more questions than answers. We are not going to just pop out a top 10 defense. It just isn't that easy, IMO.
