convince me we're not a contender...from the aqua colored glasses....

KTOwn im a riverrat. let me know how we can put 100 bucks on playoffs and im game. I'm the drunk guy at the table who always buys back in even when my luck is down and plays the stupid hands. But when the river turns and you win its soooo great. I think if you met this bet you would know after the flop it may be over in my way and you'd be praying for the river in weeks 16-17.

Not to mention Gonzo we are trying to implement the New Age TE which noone has seen from us along with keeping the protypical TE in our pocket as a starter. and keith jackson and johnny mitchell did this in the 90's, gates has been doing the new age for years, heck even crumpler did it for a while with atlanta, TE's that dont put a hand down have been around for decades. they are bigger recievers that dont put a hand down. why do you think we drafted smith...his height. recievers arent 5'10" anymore and TE's arent maulers. you're gonna see Safetys start needing to be at least 6'2" 6'3" to conteract this.

ANd yes im optimistic most years. but also living in charlotte i havent figured out a way in my head for bobcats to make playoffs, ECU is my alma mater and im sure theyll suck this year, and UNC is my basketball team and i think they'll be 4th in league this year. i do try to look through the tint on the glasses. i look through the tint on these glasses and i see a contender.

Cam Newton is the next huge thing in my hometown. Matt Moore was at one time, ive always said you get great results til people know how to defend ya. right now we are bringing something new to the table that yes mayb be GB's offense and CIN defense, but noone has seen it with this personal. The wildcat was awesome til it was gameplanned, we get off to a quick start with a new look offense then let them work to get addapted to us.

BUT its bedtime, Ill await that email KTOWN, if nothing else it'll be a fun season for us going back and forth if we make the bet. I'll tell ya what though, between the two of us you cant lose....fins make the playoffs you are a happy mofo who doesnt mind losing 100 bucks. I just donated 50 bucks to finheaven for 2 silly badges, you better believe i would double that to see my boys make the playoffs every year

I love the Dolphins, chear my wins, try to take losses well so here is my take. I think 6-8 win season for this reason.

? at QB. Hopefully Tanne gets some reps this year
? at TE, ? at WR (CJ is a big help and I like the signing), ? at Safety.

My two cents. Rip apart if you need to.

I'll give you a reason why we aren't contenders.

One word: Quarterback. You don't win in this league without a star QB, and that is a fact. Look at the past 10 teams that have won superbowls, and you'll see one thing they all have in common: A probowl QB.

I didn't make any comment regarding OUR TEs. The problem is that we never adjusted to the shifting role of TEs on defense, and they destroyed us year in and year out under Sparano, Ireland, and Co. It looks like Ireland is coming around though, at least on the offensive side of the ball. On the defensive side, safety is still a big concern, so I don't see it really changing much again this year.

Doesn't change the fact that we're not going anywhere big with Garrard or Moore behind center. They're both solid backups/transitional starters. Nothing more. That's not a bad thing. It will give the staff time to implement their systems while grooming Tannehill. He'll be stepping into a ready machine if it's done right. Barring Brady getting injured and the jests D suddenly becoming ****, we're not competing. Even then, we wouldn't make it very far in the playoffs. That's just the way it is. Doesn't mean this season will be any less fun to watch. We get to see how the new staff operates, Bush tearing it up again (hopefully, though RBs tearing it up really doesn't mean anything, amirite Peterson and Jackson?), and a good chance at preventing the jests or jills from making the playoffs again. I'll pay for that (unless the team comes in overweight, unprepared, and the systems being installed are ****, of course).

On a side note, I edited out your email address in your original post so you don't get blasted with spam. Just send him a PM. Spammers can scan these boards and will pick that up and you'll get bombarded.

fellow fins i always wear the aqua colored glasses and have the homerism. i see potential in the season despite alot saying we're not in contention and we shouldnt be signing older players and develop the younger guys for 1-2 years down the road...

Convince me and the other homers that we're not a contender this year...

i think starting QB will be between garrard and moore (if tannehill wins it more power to him, cant wait to see the kid play) garrard is only a missed season away from playoff calibar QB'ing and Moore has proven he can win in the league. Garrard didnt have recievers and even though i pull for carolina cause they are home team (not my team but home team so i pull for them to win) Moore has steve smith who can ruin a qb's confidence. he doesnt have the rep but yes he does, he treated moore and clausen horrible

RB....Bush has the superbowl veternship, slaton is a good blocker when healthy and not a horrible runner, DT showed promised and miller was a BPA luxury pick, and teams dont take luxury picks when they are preparing for the future...even if they were preparing for miller to be out younger cheaper bush.....not a bad plan

at TE fasano is NOT a bad TE, not everyone can have gronkowski, but fasano is in the top 3rd of league as starting TE's i feel, CLay will fit in perfectly and hopefully Egnew can be a hernadez type TE. Without recievers with breakaway speed i see us in some 3 TE sets near the goaline and im hoping those 3 can work out

WR....well we know we are near bottom of league. Most teams in league would have bess and hartline has 3's MAYBE a 2. but the thing is, 2's and 3's get single coverage. these guys have proven they can get open in single coverage. maybe not the long ball but WCO is about possession then trying to make something happen. Hartline couldnt make anything happen cause it seemed like most his catches he was having to hit the ground or tiptoeing sideline. Bess was all about the middle. it'd be nice if ocho could at least chip in about 40 receptions but noone is holding breath for that. if at least one reciever can show he can contribute about 40 recepetions during preseason i think even though not great we'll be fine at reciever

OL....Colombo is gone...sweeeeet, martin might not be the best being a rookie, but if he gives up half the pressure colombo did then its a plus. Long is in a contract year, pouncey has another year under him, i think reggie and the rest of the backs should have another good season. whoever qb is should be glad the turnstile at rt is gone, even if martin doesnt start then who ever replace colombo SHOULD be an improvement.

DL...IM really hoping and thinking that the DL can resemble something of trace armstrong, JT, TImbo, and gardener......are DT's are STOUT with starks and solai, and hopefully odrick can turn into the next trace with wake taking all the attention on opposite side.

LB...LB scares me, but with the two beast DTS pressure should be kept off dansby so he can roam like ZT....not saying he will be ZT but he should have pressure kept off him. the other two positions worry me some but hopefully with a new coaching staff personal can be different and we dont see burnett being lined against players he cant cover and misi showing signs of his rookie year flashings

DB...if smith can remember he used to be a reciever at utah and can come down with a pick or four that could be +2 or 3 wins in the column, a couple dropped picks wouldve been difference last year, if davis can stay healthy and get his mind straight i really feel he could be a top tier corner. both safety positions are up for grabs and that scares me more than any other position on the team, jones is go big or go home, i think clemons can give up the deep without letting it be a homerun.....think wilson is also a little bit of go big or go home.

ST...we have no clue other than carpenter or fields. im confident with them both kicking. think we'll give miller a shot at KR and who knows at PR....as much as Bess disappointed me at PR he was consitent. No biggies but no mistakes.

SO yes......i know we havent even gotten to training camp or preseason yet, but try to convince this homer that we are not contenders. everyone is contenders at 0-0 but show me how we're worse than the others. We have a team with both a new offense and new defense that no other team in league has game film on us running, we have a few players at important positions in a contract year....BIGGIE......moore, bush, long, fasano, hartline.....

Pats are aging and we almost beat em last year, they gotta faulter eventually, Jets are the JESTS, they are worried more about pretty plays for tebow than working a real offense and developing sanchez if thats possible, and even with the offseason pickups the bills are still the jillls, mario is almost the same player as wake, he'll over pursue and allow the inside run, who would you rather have on an overpursued DE play reggie bush or jackson....even though jackson did have a good year....ill take bush.

if one of the 3 qbs can do the their thing im saying we can advance in playoffs........

now prove me wrong without saying <sigh> offseason post
I think you can make arguments for 5-11 or 11-5. So many different scenarios can happen. I think the biggest question marks are at crucial positions, though. Where is the pass rush opposite Cam Wake? Hopefully Olivier Vernon can be that guy and some other players will emerge. If not 5-11 looks more likely than 11-5. Will we get good play at quarterback? I personally think David Garrard wins the job and starts for at least half a year depending on where Miami is in the standings at that point. I think Garrard is underrated and should do pretty well in this offense. Honestly, I think we are a year away from being contenders and two years away from being a serious super bowl team -- if the right moves are made of course.

I like Garrard as the dark horse to start the season, but I don't think this team has enough playmakers

We are rebuilding! The sooner you understand, the sooner you can lower your expectations and emjoy the season.

We are headed in the right direction, however we are in a tough division. We have a new coaching staff. ???? at too many positions including QB.

We will benefit from a weak schedule this year and a solid draft but we are still two solid drafts/ years away from being real contenders, IMO

I believe the Dolphins wil be competitive, but they won't really "compete" for division title or playoffs. They were a 7-9 team the last three years, and they have just changed coaching staffs and don't have an established starting quarterback. That doesn't bode well for them. I also can't see them being a bottom feeder team like bleacher report and others are saying. They have too much talent and have won some games the last few years despite bad coaching and a tough division. They should hover around .500 again.

GO PHINS~!

if matt moore or david garrard is the starting qb you're not a contender...
