With the news that Miami isnt making it seem like Goodman is a priority brings up some possibilities to me at the CB position.

1. We will sign a free agent CB to pair with Will Allen on the outside and either draft a CB or signed another free agent CB to play nickel.

2. We really like someone in the draft and will pick a CB high in the draft(probably at 25 in this scenario). Along with this we will either sign a free agent CB or draft another CB later in the draft to play nickel.

3. Now this one maybe a long shot, but its all possible. The front office feels OK about Jason Allen opposite Will Allen next year. We will draft a CB or sign a free agent corner to play nickel. Lets be honest here, everyone would love for Jason Allen to finally click and get it. But its unlikely. Jason Allen is beyond terrible at nickel and its known Sparano is going to go to all cost to not play Jason inside.(ala Jason playing vs. Randy Moss and Nathan Jones and Joey Thomas getting playing time inside over Jason)

With those possibilites laid out, I would hope to go with option #1. as id really like to see a Bryant McFadden in this defense and there are a couple other free agent corners i wouldnt mind opposite Will Allen. Problem with this scenario is, unless we are looking to lay low and unexpectedly sign someone(which we did with Gibril Wilson), we reportally have 0 visits scheduled. so im not sure we are going to go after one of the top CBs in free agency.

So that leaves the most likely scenario as being #2. Drafting a corner at 25 and playing him opposite Will Allen. If Vonte Davis is there at 25 i believe he will be our pick. If not then i could really see us waiting till the round 2 and picking the best remaining CB at 44. there will surely be someone there whether it be Alphonso Smith, Darius Butler, Victor Harris, DJ Moore, or Mike Mickens.

Hopefully we resign Good for a couple years and draft a CB regardless. But im not sure it looks likely. One thing is for sure, we need to sure up that position at this point. we cant go into next year with the current corp.

I'm fairly certain that if we wanted Goodman back, we'd have signed him already. (see crowder, carey, and bell)

I think you're right though. I'd be surprised if we didnt grab at least one FA corner, as there are no guarantees we will be able to get a decnet one in the draft.

Also keep in mind, for the most part (not every case) it takes corners and safeties a year or two to really learn the system and the speed of the NFL. So even if we did draft a corner, I'd expect him to see limited action.

God Bless him, but Jason Allen is dumb as a stump. That is a big part of the reason he can't play saftey, and why he struggled so much in Saban's complex secondary. I hope youre right, that he has turned the corner and that Sparano has more faith in him. But I think that is unlikely.

Shore Up Mcfadden And Use The First Round For Another Cb Or Ilb

I would like to see Miami add McFadden and possibly draft Sean Smith or Alphonso Smith.

I could actually see us signing a cb and then we also sign Goodman once he establishes his worth in Denver/Cleveland. Same situation as Bell/Wilson. Let the market decide what your worth instead of some outrageous # put out so you can be an attention whore on TV.

Right now, it's all about money. I think it was Omar Kelly who had posted in his blog yesterday that Miami only wanted to spend about $4M on a free agent CB. The CB market exploded, and the salaries for the guys who have signed so far were way high. And we likely still won't be able to afford Leigh Bodden or Ron Bartell. $4M per year is between what Joselio Hanson got to re-sign with the Eagles and what Chris Johnson got to re-sign with the Raiders. My guess is that we'll wait and hope the market dries up quickly, and that we can bring back Goodman or sign a Jabari Greer for that kind of money. If not, we'll be looking at nickel back types like Chris Carr or Ralph Brown to compete with a rookie.

I like the idea of signing Goodman because he's a vet that would have the opportunity to eventually play nickle in the near future. I'm personally a fan of Vontae Davis and I'm sure the FO likes the idea of a strong physical CB like Davis. I also think the FO likes Jason Allen still. If we can't get Goodman back, I like the idea of signing a good NB on say a 3 year deal, that would be ideal for both now and the future.

2009:

CB: W. Allen/J. Allen/FA/Davis/Jones

2010:

CB: Davis/J. Allen/FA/Jones/?

My choice personally, but we'll see how the rest of the off-season unfolds.

The Allens will be tearing it up this season. Jason and Will are going to be out there taking butts and kicking names.
