Cortland Finnegan and Jason fox interviews

Don't ask me why but I predict Cortland will beast if he stays healthy.

seeing the jason fox interview solidified my hunch that the finz will not be taking o-line in the first round. MAYBE even the second.

fox WON the job in detroit at RT, he wasn't a 3rd stringer who got the job mid season because everyone else was injured. we probably have our RT.

shelly smith appears to be one of those finds. EVERYONE on the finz loves this guy and says his ceiling huge. very possible we dont start looking for guards until round 3.

all this appears to me, as of now that the finz are FINALLY poised to take BPA in the draft. secondary, lb, wr, whatever. and at #19 there will still be a handful of players with hi first round talent.

CALVIN PRYOR is still the player i think they pic at #19. true enforcer, mad skills, super tough and you cant have enough quality DB's in this era of nfl. delmas is a knee injury away from being gone. none of the guys in the safety position [minus jones] has a contract that hurts the finz. pryor comes right in and starts for 10 years and jimmy wilson can now hit the road [way over due!!].

or, if one of the top 3 cb's are still on the board and calvin is gone, that very well may be it. our secondary is NOT championship caliber at this moment. the nfl network show MOCK DRAFT WEEKLY has us taking BRADLY ROBY at #19. i would take that in a heart beat!!

so many ways hickey can go as of now. and i LOVE that!! :hclap:

Thanks for the post - I liked both interviews...Both were realistic about the need to make the most of this opportunity....

I appreciated their humility - both seemed like good people and both good be huge positive additions if healthy...

We always get overly optimistic about plug-ins on the Oline- always. We're guilty of being fans is all.

But we, perhaps more than other fans, should know that patch work doesnt get it done. Bandaids are no aid at all. We drafted Long and he was a beast. He didnt give us the longevity we shouldve gotten but the draft is where its at. You have to build through the draft and our oline has been a long time coming. You gotta draft and it goes without saying that you have to hit on the picks. Hitting on the picks comes with a higher percentage when selecting amongst the cream of the crop. Its not rocket science. Later rounds, it may very well be rocket science.

It doesnt look like we may have much of an option. Theres always a run on tackles and it stands to reason. Put the QB on his arse and immortals like Manning and Brady can be made to look human. You've got to protect the QB. Brady is going to go down as one of the best ever to play and i cant tell you the number of times ive seen the guy drop back, have time to sip an expresso, and then throw the football. Its almost not even fair.

I had forgotten about the Fox signing, and while I think we'll still need to draft some corn for depth/competition I could easily see up opt for other positions in the first 2 rounds.

I didn't know much about Fox before we got him, so my expectations were zilch but he could be very good depth. He looks pretty big and it sounds like he is healthy. He also impressed as being quite intelligent.

If Hickey is basing his draft on having Jason Fox, he is an idiot and should not have a job. Of course Fox is healthy its the offseason and he has only played like 8 games out of 62 in his career. If he produces fine but he has never been good depth or a good starter unless u count injured as starting

NRA don't forget that the thing that killed the Miami OL play last year was not necessarily injuries or suspensions.

The thing that KILLED the Miami OL was the fact that 1. Most starters were poor to mediocre apart from Pouncey and Cogs. And 2. As soon as a starter went down, the depth behind the starter was so bad that words can't describe it. And this from a GM that had plenty of money and lots of draft picks. Scrubs -- well, it's an insult to scrubs to call last year's backup OL scrubs. One of the worst FAILs in GM history, imo.

What you are seeing now in the OL acquisitions is an awareness that your starters must be a bit better than average -- as a WHOLE -- in order for teams to do well. AND that your backups must be ready to push the starters and play well at a moment's notice.

Don't get caught up in the OL moves so far and think that Hickey is done.

No true GM would be -- not with the debacle last year.
