Cortland Finnegan?

Seems to be doing much better than people had him pegged for. Looks like #2 CB is his job to lose.

i thought it was interesting that Will Davis described it as a contest between Finnegan, Jamar Taylor and himself for the second starting CB position. I had assumed that if Finnegan was playing well, it would be his. Will is one of the most candid players in interviews. (He's great in front of a camera). He was also quite open about the Defense being on top of the Offense just about every day.
Sounds like Taylor and Davis are both healthy and they have both improved. Davis has the reputation of being a bit of a star performer at practice.

Haven't heard much about him thus far. Anyone hear how he's been doing in camp?

From camp reports looks like CB #2 is Finnegans to lose.

Although I see him sliding over to Nickel in package.

might check out the camp reports since it started.

finneggan has been WAY more than anyone expected. he is refreshed and re dedicated and LOVES being here. say's he loves the scheme and his coaches and the players around him, especially the youngsters who have taken to him as an instant leader. and of course, he is laying the lumber and having at least one standout play per practice. the good thing is what we are NOT hearing and thats getting beat constantly, leaving practices early with trainers in tow, tired out, etc... . just that alone is great news. the play making is icing on the cake!

davis is enthusiastic. i think its his nature but he is NO WHERE near being the second corner. and taylor, he couldnt learn from any better than finnegan. and thats words from his mouth! he said he has learned more from him than just about all his time in college. FINNEGAN, unless something transpires he is already on track, from the jump, to be COME BACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR!!

the short version of this? even though jamar taylor is on the rise and probably will be the starter or excellent off the bench player, FINNEGAN has that spot locked up. period!! he and grimey already have a chemistry. good things happening in our secondary, for a change!!

The less you hear about corners and safeties the better it is in general. This guy was my fav pick up of the offseason. Love his attitude.

He is doing very well, and like russianbear said, his job to lose right now.

Grimes is looking like his amazing self, Taylor is looking much better then last year, and the safeties are impressing all over the field, add to that a pass-rush that may makes last years squad look like slackers, and this defense could prove to be a nightmare to throw against.

If Misi can fit in at M-LB as well as I think he can, there is going to be little offenses will be able to do against us.

I can't imagine our defense being any worse this year.

Secondary is showing improvement, Reshad had a down year last year, so I can expect marginal improvement there. Dion Jordan had a full year to recover and strengthen up, linebacker play sure as hell can't get any worse.

Good stuff.

Only question mark to me is how badly will we miss Solai? Lots of ways to try and predict that one, but if Misi can stuff the middle I think we can be alright, and let the outside backers make some plays more natural to them through the blitz.

I think Finnegan is going to fit perfectly in our D, and I agree that he could be moved inside on nickle packages, while Taylor mans the perimeter.

One of mine as well. It wasn't fun being one of the few to defend his signing, but hopefully I can go read that thread again in 6 months and laugh at the naysayers.
