Imo it's pretty clear that we will pick in the last third of the first round if we not trade up.. I really like Brian Orakpo out of Texas.. He's fast, quick and really strong..We could use him as an OLB in our 3-4 system, imo this would take pressure off Porter because he is double-teamed much and we get than an other every-down sack threat in our lineup.. so do you believe that he could fall to our draft spot in the last third ?
Imo it may can happen because many juniors are projected to come out because of the threating rookie salary cap, CBA etc..

Thoughts ?

It's possible...

But I would rather see Miami trade up to get Everette Brown....he's the best defensive player in the country IMO (other than sophomore DB for Tennessee Eric Berry, who won't be eligible until 2010) and Brown could be the first defensive player off the board come draft day...(should he declare)

Brown has the arsenal of pass rush moves that Orakpo lacks at this time...Brown has also shown the ability to drop into coverage...

I could not agree anymore my friend. I love this kid. I've been talking Brian Orakpo up since before the season as our second round pick but he's played absolutely incredibly all season and he's easily a first rounder. He could go in the first 15 actually. I still think our most pressing need is in the secondary but Orakpo would be a great selection. Has anyone seen how strong and physical this kid is? It's ridiculous.

Personally, I think both Orakpo and Everette Brown are overrated to certain extents. Orakpo certainly has the size/weight ratio working in his favor as far as the Dolphins front office is concerned, but he's a one-trick pony as far as pass-rush moves. He doesn't really look that great at the point of attack and can't protect his legs very well, and I believe he might slip, but I doubt he slips past the 10-15 range, and we'll be picking after that.

As for Brown, he's a pure speed guy. I've not seen him really use his hands all that well, and he gets eaten up when an O-lineman gets his hands on him, especially in the run game. I also don't think Brown is quite the 6'4" 250lbs they list him at either, which will hurt him in the Dolphins front office eyes. You also have to look at the lineage of FSU players who tried to get converted: Wimbley, Reynolds, Wadsworth, etc. which isn't very good company.

I'd take Orakpo over Brown, but I'd take Clint Sintim or Larry English over Orakpo. I think we might even concentrate on some SOLB prospects, which Orakpo would be, in the later part of rounds 2 and 3, with guys like Will Davis from Illinois, Pannel Egboh from Stanford, and Tim Jamison from Michigan.

Orakpo = Vernon Gholston sorry but i think he is overrated. I think Sintim or English are not projects like he would be. Both sintim and english could step into our 3-4 and play opposite of JP or whoever is there next season and will make an immediate impact.

Sintim could, English would be a project IMO. He's played purely 4-3 DE in college, and he'd be more suited to play the role that Porter does. Sintim is the best pure 3-4 OLB, and he's a SOLB at that.

I'm not sold on Gholston being a bust yet either. I don't think the Jets have worked him in the right position, he should be playing WOLB, where Pace is, and not SOLB. They also don't seem to have accounted for the fact Gholston has never done most of what they've asked him to do, and with the way the NY media jumps all over it, he's unfairly pegged right now. That said, I thought he'd be a little more productive, but I veiw it as the fact the Jets picked him so New England wouldn't, but the Jets haven't discovered how to use him. I think if Gholston were a Patriot, he'd be fairing as equally well at OLB as Jerod Mayo has at ILB.

I would take Sintim over Orakpo at this point. Orakpo is going to take some time to develop whereas Sintim can come in and play right away.

Wadsworth and Reynolds weren't converted to 3-4 'backers...Wimbley is holding his own thusfar....4 sacks and a FF so far this year.

Peter Bouleware fared quite well playing from a two point stance in Baltimore's 3-4 scheme....

I've recently come to the conclusion that Brown has the most upside of any defensive player in this draft...I'm going to go in the opposite direction...I think he's underrated right now..but he has a great shot at being the first defensive player selected on draft day...

another guy to look out for is the dude from tennessee.

Robert Ayers if i recall right. 6'2 270 and one of the best pass rushers THIS year. good at shedding blocks and has a nice bull rush as well with a constant motor. Does a good job against the run as well.

Absolutely...I mentioned Ayers a couple months ago as a player that really caught my eye..

He lead the team in "big plays" two years in a row along with Eric Berry...Ayers did so last year without even starting...playing behind Xavier Mitchell and Antonio Reynolds...

However, Ayers is a projection when considering him standing up in a 3-4...not sure on his prospects of playing in space, dropping into coverage, etc...

May be more of a prototypical 4-3 end...we'll have to see how he does in post season drills...

I would call 4 sacks and a FF vastly underachieving for Wimbley. What'd he have last year? 11 sacks?

If Everette Brown measures out at 6'4" 252lbs. (FSU is notorious for adding inches and pounds) and blows up the combine, I could see him being drafted highly, but not over Malcolm Jenkins; purely based on need at the top of the draft, unless KC reaches for him.

i love everette and really hope tuna gives him a look if he falls in the first....no way hes the first defensive player taken imo or that team is making a mistake. like it was previously said, he can dominate games but hes a pure speed guy and i also have concerns hes not as bg as his listed size. with all that said if bp thinks he can play olb ide love him

i think he will pull a ware/merriman and go top 15.
hes very simliar to ware.

one more thing you guys need to realize that no one knows relaly, BP was going for Spears wiht their 1st pick but Jones had the final say and wante4d Ware so he went for ware and spears fell to them luckily with their other 1st.

this would have been a major blow to BP if he screwed that up had it not been for jones. So dont get too comfy and ****y with BP guys.
