NFL network's M.Mayock said he asked 4 high level scouts who Miami should take all 4 said J.Long. Mayock then seemed to scramble a bit and say that Atlanta has to take Ryan because he assumes St.Louis will take Dorsey.

Charley Casserly made some smart comments about Miami could be looking at who's the most popular guy on the board and try to sign him early and force other teams to make a deal if they really want J.Long.

My question is if we sign a player before the draft are you absolutely committed to taking this guy or do you still have the oppotunity to draft someone else and dissolve the contract? Is the contract set up that it's a done deal only if we draft you.

Finally. The REAL SMOKESCREEN is working!! Time to convince Matt Ryan that if he wants to be the #1 pick in the draft he needs to do so at a discount and sign early. Its all working so perfect.

I believe if he's under contract...he's the teams property...and can be traded at any time.

The part I'm not sure about - if the Dolphins sign someone to a contract, most certainly that contract will have a signing bonus. I would think that if the Dolphins ink that player to the contract, they are obligated to pay the signing bonus. If that is true, why would the Dolphins pay out a signing bonus and then trade that player to another team for draft picks only to pay another signing bonus? Outside of the cash implications (which are huge), that would affect the salary cap in a huge way as well.

I could be wrong on this, but that's how I think it works.

Contracts are as varying as words. Many contracts have trade clauses in which the player can veto the trade. If the Dolphins were to try this strategy I highly suggest that they not include any language giving the player (in this case Ryan) any say in the matter. But, his agent may push for it.

Any contract agreed to before the draft would include the provision that it would only be valid if the team actually drafted the player.

Any contract must be approved by the NFL, and if you do not own the rights to the player (did not draft him) the NFL is not going to approve the contract.

i saw how they had asked The coach name your starting O-Line, and he couldn't name a RT.......LT if you move Carey to RT.

This is a HUGE thing. The coach not knowing the starting line.
You have to go with Long ...Jake Long

If they were to draft someone and then trade him to another team, they would NOT agree to a long term deal before the draft. They would simply just draft him and trade him to the highest bidder. That is what the Chargers did with Eli Manning. I think it would be impossible to trade a guy once he has a long term deal.

The Chargers were able to trade Manning, because once you select someone, they automatically get a one year deal at the league minimum. So, after the Chargers drafted Manning, he was their property for one year.

god i hope so

Matt Ryan's tendency to fumble is reason alone not to be drafted #1 overall - for the Parcell's system.

6 fumbles over 68 rushing attempts and 21 sacks. John Beck's success will largely be based his ability not to fumble, that's why he's been asked to bulk up. It is also why we signed Josh McCown.
