This year's crop of Supplemental Draft eligible players are:

  • Wide receiver Chase Clayton, New Mexico - 6-3, 202 lbs.
  • Linebacker Darius Lipford, UNC - 6-3, 255 lbs.
  • Defensive tackle Lakendrick Ross, Virginia-Lynchburg - 6-5, 360 lbs.
  • Running back Traylon Shead, SMU - 6-2, 230 lbs.

The Dolphins selecting any of these four would be a little surprising, though Clayton and Ross could be a consideration to sign as a free agent. Ross' athleticism and size could interest Miami as they look to stick him on the roster and develop him for when Randy Starks retires (or is not re-signed). Clayton is a project as well, having spent most of his time working as a returner and not as a receiver. At 6'3", however, he could have the size the Dolphins want to add to the roster, despite already having a logjam at the position right now.

Ross could be the perfect replacement for Solia and Shead could be the big back Miami covets but only as UDFAs. I don't see any team wasting picks on these guys.

Ross and/or Shead might be with a look. I would probably just wait to see if anyone offers a pick and sign as a free agent. No big loss either way.

Wouldn't hurt to give up a 7th rounder for one of them if we like one.

Do we currently have a 7th rounder in next years draft? I know we gave one to Baltimore for McKinney's services last year, and hope to recoup one for Martin, but it's conditional on him making the final 53 this season in San Fran. So, unless I'm incorrect, we currently don't have a 7th rounder next year to use.

So what issues do these 4 have? Considering that Josh Gordon has an alcohol problem.

Is Shead is any good at short yardage? At 6'2" and 230 lbs he's a pretty big RB.
Ross is a 360 lbs DT - that's 55 lbs heavier than Randy Starks and 33 lbs heavier than anyone we've got on our roster. (He must have very heavy bones). However, in Garrison Smith, AJ Francis and Anthony Johnson we have lots of big young DTs trying to make the roster.
