I was looking over the roster needs and tried to figure out why would Parcells be thinking about spending a pick on a 3rd string QB who is not looked at as more than just a Wildcat trick play player who would be more of a specialist WR/RB/QB type player than a fulltime QB?

Then I realized that the DOlphins kind of struggled in their KR/PR game and weened Tedd Ginn Jr away from the return game and more into the fulltime WR role and the fact that Bess pretty much sucked as his replacement.

Well, it would be brilliant if Parcells is thinking of using every roster spot for a useful player than just an injury insurance policy that will be inactive in most, if not all games, like John Beck was this season.

Beck was basically a waste of cap space/roster spot, if you look at it. Not that he cost a lot, but just that he was basically inactive the whole season. And he is not our future QB, nor are we grooming him to take over for Henne or to compete with him.

Pennington is our QB and Henne is our backup/future.

So what Parcells is thinking here is that we can trade Beck away for a late pick and use that roster spot that we used on an inactive 3rd string QB for a 3rd string QB who can be active and used on KR/PR duties....as well as provide a specialist to use in our Wildcat formation that will provide us with a better threat than Ronnie Brown was at QB there....and on top of that provide a 3rd string injury insurance policy at QB that John Beck was, except being actually a young guy that can be groomed while being a useful roster spot. I likes the idea. Pat White in round 4.

I'll give you everything except the trading of Beck, if you can get anything then go for it but I don't see a 3rd stringer getting traded for anything. Drafting a kid solely for the Wildcat is really a dumb idea that someone has put out there. If P.White gets draft it will be purely because the FO thinks he can play WR and do other things to help aswell but a WR first and foremost.

I like the idea of Pat White, well maybe I'm just open to the idea . . . but I think u are completely wrong when u say its to groom a QB.

The staff spent alot of working hours with Beck and call me crazy, I think they are impressed with Beck and his dedication and maturity he has shown and I would be suprised if they didn't go into camp with him. I really would be suprised.

That being said, they can still find room for White in an active role. Even if it means only activating 2 TE's.

I'm open to drafting Pat White, but as some have already said. If the front office believes he can develop into a good WR, then it makes sense to take him. Taking him solely as a "Wildcat player" would be foolish.

It's an interesting idea, but in my mind it may come down to just how much White can contribute as a KR/PR since I don't believe he did any returning in college and is he a legitimate prospect at QB or is he one of those likely to be converted to WR/TE?

I'm not in favor of spending a relatively high draft pick on a wildcat specialist. I'd rather that pick go to improving a more immediate area of need like an OL that will make the wildcat less of a necessity.

I like what little I've seen of White but if he doesn't pan out as KR/PR can we afford to consistently keep him on the active roster just to run the wildcat?

He looked real good in the bowl game. Pat White IMO could have a real shot at being a quarterback in the NFL. But most likely he's a WR.

The middle rounds are where a lot of good lineman and LBs go, which is what we'll be looking for come draft time.

No thank you, although it is a very interesting idea.

No, I'm not saying to groom him as a future QB, but to groom as a specialist QB out of the WIldcat is what the report stated.

I'm adding that he can be being looked at as "also" being our KR/PR and backup to TEdd Ginn Jr as a speedster should Ginn get hurt. Injuries "are" a part of the game you know..

If we continue to run the wildcat and advance the formation, Pat White would fill the role perfectly as the "point guard" of that offense. I'm sure he has much more value as a passer than Ronnie Brown does.
We could use White to run the wildcat, and also groom him as a wideout/return man.
4th 5th round, why not?

Why does everyone have a fetish for Pat White on this forum? Is there any actual shred of a hint that the FO has any interest in him? Like, you know, not a secret source someone heard about?

Also, using White as our 3rd QB doesn't free up a roster spot because the 3rd string QB is inactive and special rules apply to him coming into the game. If we were using White as a return man, he'd use one of the active roster slots.

What would even be the difference between having White to run the Wild Cat...and having him as the QB in general???

There is just no point in drafting him.
