I was thinking about the defense and the positions that need to be upgraded. I feel we are not getting enough of a pass rush from Roth and I think we need someone to balance Porter. My question is, do you guys feel Roth could play inside LB or is his range too limited for the position?

Personally, I think we need to upgrade both inside LB positions.... yeah, that means letting C Crowder walk.

Roth actually started out as a linebacker at Iowa. Since I have watched many Iowa games here in Iowa. I am not so sure he would be fast enough as a linebacker. But here is some stats I picked from a net site.

Roth began his Iowa career as a middle linebacker, recording 19 tackles (12 solo) in 12 games as a reserve in 2001. He shifted to the defensive line in 2002, as the coaches felt he played with too aggressively to be effective as a linebacker. Roth responded to the move by recording 48 tackles (22 solo) with 10 sacks, 11 stops behind the line of scrimmage and 11 quarterback pressures, despite starting only one game. Roth took over left-end duties in 2003, collecting 51 tackles (32 solo),12 sacks, 16 stops for losses and four forced fumbles

I think Roth would struggle with the mental aspects of the game, and I don't think he has ideal quickness for the middle. All in all he is much better suited to the outside.
