I know it may sound a little extreme but we all know the talent that Ahmad Brooks has and there is a very good chance we use a 3rd or a 4th on him but, from everything I've read about this David Dixon kid out of JUCO indicates he is a hell of an athlete that is a prototypical rush type linebacker. Is it possible that Saban would want to get ALOT younger very quickly and use a 6th or 7th on this Dixon guy? I know alot of you hate not having a full helping of draft picks come draft day but you have to ask yourself, is there going to be an Ahmad Brooks caliber player in the 4th round of the 2007 draft, or a Dixon in the 7th? The answer clearly seems to be No, and if Saban decides to go in this direction I woudnt be dissappointed at all. Thoughts?

It's possible, if they draft Brooks. I imagine Miami will use a 6th on either of the two other linebackers, considering that that would mean Miami wouldnt have to pay the Lions Harrington's 6th rounder until 2008.

Good question. Saban does value draft picks though so it's really hard to see him giving up 2 for these kids. Whatever he does though, I will have faith in his decision making because he has earned that trust with me lol. :)

I mean if Wannsted was still here I might have a chance of entering the supp draft and getting selected by the Fins. :)

i like that idea... this is an oppurtunity to get higher value for our mid-round picks. Sure the picks won't be there for the deep pool next year but it's about getting the most value for the cheapest price. Saban and comapany pulled the trigger on a guy in the supp. his 1st year.. i think we're likely to draft Brooks if the price is right.... but using another isn't out of the question. Hey atleast we'll have our 1st AND 2nd rounders for the Draft !!!! that will be a nice change.

I dunno. It seems that he might have to use a 2nd or 3rd on Ahmad Brooks. So we'll see.

True. I would be suprised if we spent that much but if we did that would say alot about what the staff thinks of him. The other guys will be drafted later on and I see us picken one of them up as a more likely scenario.

This statement comes up alot when talking about the supplemental draft but, essentially, what is the difference in using a draft pick in the supplemental draft versus the real draft? If the value is there in the supplemental draft then it makes more sense to use these picks on players that we feel like can come in and contribute to this club.

The teams that play the 4/3 probably don't value Brooks that high, but he is a great fit in the 3/4 according to Pat Kirwan (friends with Al Groh). I say if we can get him in now and use him for a year then a 4th is well worth it.

Saban can do whatever he feels like doing.

As long as he gets Ahmad Brooks:D

Because there are reasons these players were not in the regular draft.

Some are academically ineligible for whatever reason, not a good thing if you want a player with smarts. If they can't tough out school, how will they do in the NFL? Others, like Brooks, are kicked out of school for publicly unknown reasons.

I think all you have to do is look back and see the success, or lack thereof of a majority of past supplemental players, particularly when investing a high pick.

Using the same pick next year gives a team another seasons worth of investigation into other players. That much greater chance for success that way.

Brooks may be the exception to the rule. Time will tell.

Good god. Thomas, Crowder, Brooks, and Dixon? Next year's draft was supposed to be about linebacker. This could change that.

The type of evaluation you put into the supplemental draft should (and most likely is) handled to the same degree or greater than that of the regular draft. When looking at a guy with 1st round talent but 6th round character, well thats a chance worth taking, and if successful will yield high dividends. Just because a player is in the supplemental draft doesnt mean they are a dead end player/person. With careful examination we could come out of the supplemental draft very well off.
