Could someone explain to me in laymen's terms what a CBA is?

No NFL in 2008 would break my heart and that is why I want to know what the CBA is. If it is threatening my favorite sport then I should at least have an understanding of it.

Colective Bargining Agreement.
I know what it stands for. I want it explained as to what it is and means.

Its the collective bargaining Agreement

In lamest terms its basically the salary cap, and how much revenue owners get and stuff like that, of course its way more complicated but thats the way I understand it, I could be wrong

Isn't it basically a contract between the owners and the players association? Setting vet salaries for years served, rookie minimum and things like that??

The CBA dictates the rules for NFL contracts between the teams and the players. It also dictates how much money each team gets to keep. The point of contention right now seems to be revenue sharing between the owners. For instance- If a team makes 10 million dollars from naming right to their stadium and another 10 from local telivion deals should the team keep that money or should whatever money all teams make from these sources go into a pot that is evenly divided between all 32 teams?
The teams that are making a lot of money want very limited revenue sharing and the teams that arnt making as much want lots of revenue sharing. The reason that the new CBA is stalled seems to be because the owners cant seem to agree on revenue sharing, not because the owners and players cant agree on player contract issues.

Edit-I think there is a lot more areas that are effected by revenue sharing but that is a simplified explenation.

Its the contract between the league and the player's association. Any hockey fan knows it very well (year long strike- AWFUL).

I think you meant laymen's terms. :sidelol:

In the simplest terms a collective bargaining agreement is a contract between an employer and employees where the employees have elected a body to represent them. It is basically a union/company agreement to terms of employment. These contracts generally are negotiated every few years (expiration of contract is negotiated and is in the cba) and contain all the rules for salary, health care, hours, etc, etc. The NFL is basically a union shop (thus the potential for strike).
