Could someone explain why Bradford is rated so high?

i don't really care what any of them do cause we finally have a qb we can build around for the long haul...

my favorite is jimmy clausen but i'll freely admit i haven't been studying the qb crop...

sam bradford to me is a little soft...needs some time in an nfl strength training regimen or something...very accurate passer though...to me a good fit for one of the dome teams cause i can see elements effecting his passes...not a whole lot of arm strength imo...but i wouldn't say it's poor either...more wing than penny lol

Ive seen 2 mocks now that have Seattle getting Derrick Morgan and CJ Spiller. Wow. Id be pretty surprised if they took Bradford at 6. Id milk another year out of Hasselback. With their needs along the O Line I dont see any qb doing well. I could see them reaching on a tackle given Walter Jones retiring.

i would think seattle would be in play for an off tackle with one of the picks...but i could also see a def end and a rb...maybe even a qb...

lots of needs the hawks have...

ya the Morgan / Spiller picks make sense. they fill needs. Dez Bryant fills a need too as I expect Branch for sure and possibly Burleson to be unemployed. they could even go Joe Haden. they can go in alot of directions, you're right.

Bradford is a very accurate passer and he has oustanding feet. He and Clausen and both very strong candidiates for different reasons.

I dislike this QB class. My favorite prospect is probably Dan LeFevour.

Bradford has the intangibles you like in a QB, but 2 shoulder surgeries in such a short time is a concern. He's probably best served in a WCO.

Clausen I dislike for justified and unjustified reasons. I hate how he carries himself, and I hate how he bought into his own hype going to Notre Dame. He has a stronger arm than Bradford, but I dunno if his arm really is that strong. Clausen 3 NFL players to throw to (Tate, Floyd, and Randolph) and really didn't go up against a lot of top defenses. Also, while you don't want to use this as an excuse, he wasn't a winner in college (in his 3 years at Notre Dame the Irish went 16-21). Plus, he has an attitude problem.

I think Bradford, McCoy, and Tebow have the intangibles everybody likes but each has glaring weaknesses in their games. While guys like Tony Pike,Zach Robinson, and Dan LeFevour are good developmental projects.

Honestly, Jevan Snead may be the best QB talent wise in the draft, but he's not ready mentally. Clausen is just the best in a down year.

Now next year's QB class with Jake Locker and Mitch Mustain will be something to look forward to.

Mitch Mustain?

Andrew Luck is the best QB in the nation and aside from Locker, there's Blaine Gabbert, Robert Griffen and of course Ryan Mallett.

I disagree with you about the value of being a "winner." Vince Young and Matt Leinart were both winners, but Jay Cutler has had the better NFL career because he's had to carry bad teams and knows how to deal with losing. VY nearly killed himself after being benched because Texas left him ill-prepared for the harsh reality of being an NFL QB. Leinart was a winner, but because he played with a supremely talented team, never developed the work ethic needed to be a top flight NFL QB.

I just can't see how any team could be comfortable taking a QB coming off of 2 shoulder surgeries, especially with a top 10 pick. Neither Clausen or Bradford are particularly safe picks, because, statistically speaking, most QBs who leave college after their junior years tend to fail, but I like Clausen more because he's dealt with playing on bad teams, has the physical tools, and played in a true pro style offense. IMO, Bradford's ceiling is Chad Pennington. He's a smart guy and a hard worker, but injuries and a subpar arm will doom him.

IMO, I think Bradford reminds me more of Drew Brees than Chad Pennington. Bradford has a stronger arm than Pennington, but he doesn't have the elite arm strength, similar to Brees. However, Bradford knows how to move around in the pocket and is extremeley accurate with the football... like Brees. I think he will be a very successful quarterback.

Isn't that what they said about Pat White?

:err: Who is they? And if "they" said Pat White was a top 15 pick with the best accuracy of any collegiate QB than "they" are stupid. Bradford isnt remotely similiar to White.

I just hope that bradford is a top 11 pick. the same with claussen. but I doubt it.

but the more people that go high that aren't a position of need for us, the better chances we have of having multiple positions that could be filled. problem will be deciding who it is between the two or three possible BPA's that all fill needs.

He reminds me a lot of Chad Pennington -- leader, great decision maker, accurate. Those are great qualities for a quarterback to have. The two injuries are definitely a concern, but teams are going to roll the dice on that because qb is such a critical position to fill.

He even has the same injury as Penny too.

I think a lot of the "attitude" knocks on Clausen may even be a little unjustified.....sure he's got some arrogance about him....but I like a little bit of that in my quarterback...

Have you seen Notre Dame's defense? That's got a helluva lot more to do with his win/loss record than him not playing up to par does....

Clausen never quit...even when his team was down big and his offensive line was letting 3 man rushes get to him in 2 seconds....he kept fighting and kept the team in games....there were literally days when Clausen and Golden Tate were the only two players to show up for ND and tried to win the games themselves...

Clausen has a competitive nature and the toughness I like in a quarterback...he came off the bench INJURED in the final 2 minutes to lead ND's offense on a scoring drive to come from behind and beat Purdue..

Nobody ever likes the top quarterbacks in a draft class....it's just natural for the position to be over-analyzed....sometimes it's justified...(Jamarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, etc..) sometimes it isn't (Matt Ryan, Mark Sanchez, etc.)..

Your record as starter and gaudy stats should always be thrown out the window when evaluating QB's in my opinion....John Elway was a loser at Stanford, he never even made it to a bowl APPEARANCE....there are countless, countless examples here...

Whereas all those wins and Heisman Trophies for players like Pat White, Tim Tebow, etc. are nice to have..... they can't, and won't be able to throw the football for them on Sundays...

I rarely get gaga over QB prospects, and I'm generally against taking QB's at high picks, but Bradford was definitely impressive with his throws. I think with the right team he will be very successful.
