Could it be that we have a team filled with players who simply aren't very smart? Combine that with complicated schemes and that would be a recipe for failure. Just a thought.

I have to admit that this has crossed my mind as well. If that is the case, Saban is deserving of a lot more criticism than he is currently getting. Most of these guys are his...there would be no excuse for taking guys incapable of learning the playbook.

That's not the issue, It does not take smarts to catch a ball with ur hands....just skills,
No smarts needed to have a running back not to dance in the back field, and hit the hole......just experiance,
Smarts not needed to get interception, when the ball is right there for you.....just awareness.
All of them are playing like rookies, and it making them look like they are not smart.

I think our main problem is a combination of things.

We all overestimated the impact Daunte, Mularkey, and Capers would have on the team.

I aso think the two guys who were considered our top weapons (Chambers and McMichael) have disappeared every game.

Combine that with the o-line's troubles, and Tillman and Spragan having the inabilities to make any plays what so ever, and you've got a problem.

People want to blame Ronnie to, but if you look at his stats, while the rushing yards aren't always there, he's gotten over 100 yards of total offense in almost every game this year.

On the bright side, Jason Allen made a couple nice plays last week, and Hagan did a very nice job (is also up for rookie of the week)

We have the prototypical bunch of guys who are simply football physical and not very smart especially on offense. There are players in this league who thrive simply on knowledge of the game. Lawrence Taylor was never the physical specimen and frankly partied himself into rehab every week. But his knowledge of the game was unparalleled at outside LB. Payton Manning is no Michael Vick in terms of athleticism but honestly ask yourself who would you rather have running an offense? Dallas Clark looks like somekind of hippie football player out of the seventies but he's always open and makes the catch. There's a list of guys who are major difference makers on the big teams who aren't genetically endowed in any way......Except intelligence. Great Post!!

It seems like the team as a whole plays half a game every week and then get upset when they lose, well what do the players expect when you play half a game.

Tom Brady is probably the best of the "bright but not best endowed" QBs ever. He doesn't have the great arm or the size or the scrambling ability, but he's got everything he needs between his ears.

Chad Pennington is another good one with a thousand dollar arm and a million dollar brain.

Facts speak loud don't they?

Just because they are his, doesn't mean they are the ones he really wanted. Sabn can't afford to get all of his guys, so we have to draft them. But, with only 2 or so possible draft picks becoming starters you can see it will take a few years to draft the key spots Saban needs to fill. Then, cutting some of the overpaid players and either saving cap space for players Saban really covets or allowing trades from more draft picks, we can also rebuild in Saban's mold. It just won't happen as fast as some here were hoping.

The issue with this team is a very simple one. The Dolphins need to start scoring more points than the other team. :dolphins:

when i think of these smart qb's ...i guess were talkin about football smarts cuz feidler was a dartmouth grad
