I know it is early on but I was thinking about this years draft class and started to wonder how they would rank against some of our other drafts. Again I know it is early but...
1. Long looks like a he is going to be a franchise LT
2. Merling is coming along slowly but he look like he has a lot of potential
3. Henne is going to end up starting before the season is over.
4. Langford who was said to be a reach (by some after the draft) looks great so far
5. Thomas who was almost an after thought to Murphy is also starting and looks to be the answer we have been awaiting at RG
6. Bess is going to make the team and I think will end up being our slot WR.... maybe in time, he will have us saying "Wes who?"
7. Carpenter... has also looked great so far.

Of the four others Murphy and Parmele look to be PS type guys. I dont really know much about Dotson or Hillard.

Don't know about you guys but for the first time in a long time I am actually excited about our future! I can't wait to see who good this team is going to be with a couple more drafts like this years.

WHY?! can we please actually develop a QB for once.....give him a year please.

Why does everyone think you need to sit for a year to become something good?

Happens both ways, you do not need to sit a QB to develop him.

Aikman started from jump
Manning started from jump.

There are examples of success both ways.

Fresh wounds. We had a great deal of excitement over a 2nd round QB who played well in training camp last year. After playing his rookie year, his confidence seemed to be broken and has yet to recover.

This could be the best draft class we have ever had. We will have to wait and see though as there are a lot of "ifs" that need to be confirmed with solid play time. But I get the excitement.

Another thanks to Cam for that one.

A lot of people liked Rick Speilman's last draft as GM of the dolphins until recently:

1.) Vernon Carey - for 1st and 4th (didn't need to throw in the 4th, IMO, but I love him as a player).

2.) No 2nd round pick [AJ Feeley(a trend I am glad ended)]

3.) No 3rd round pick [Lamar Gordon(see above trends^^)]

4.) Looked good at the time, where is Will Poole now?

5.) Tony Bua - yeah, we all liked the pick after that "ONE" hard hit he had...where is he now?

6.) Rex Hadnot - the most overrated OL the Dolphins have ever drafted

7.) Tony Pape - out of the league

7.) Derrick Pope - the most overrated LB in Dolphins history, where is he now?

I like our draft, don't get me wrong...but I like to reserve judgement until 2-3 years+ down the road on most NFL draftees.

I can understand that as well. But if Henne comes out toward the end of the season and shows he is clearly the best option at QB. How could you want to keep the guy showing he deserves the spot on the sideline.

I like how promising this class of rookies looks so far, butlet's not get ahead of ourselves.

Ask this same question in 3-5 years and we'll all have an opinion formed one way or another.

signed with the vikings. I'd say Eddie moore was the most overrated LB in dolphins history. At least pope did some good things here.

Not unless it leads to championships. I still go back to the late '60s classes through '70 as our best. I realize many younger fans look at those drafts and names like Tim Foley and Bob Heinnz don't jump out. But those guys were fundamental parts of the glory era. Then unfortunately we really failed at the draft parallel to the great Super Bowl teams, preventing an extension of that era.

Regardless, I'm thrilled we prioritized the trenches in this draft. Too many Dolphin fans seemed to prefer a quota approach, wanting to draft dinky receivers and defensive backs. We were pathetic on the line of scrimmage and that's a natural regulator. The frills picks can come later, once the foundation is set.

I didn't offer too many personnel opinions prior to the draft but in the Draft forum I did boost Henne many times, saying I liked him and Ainge but preferably Henne. I wanted no part of Ryan at #1 and didn't like Flacco. Henne jumped out as a cool customer and tough guy with a great arsenal of downfield throws.

The guy I really liked but got away was Quentin Groves. IMO, we're kidding ourselves with some of these something-for-nothing types at OLB, plus moving Roth. Groves is an absolute wrecking ball with suddenness. But the way the draft fell, we would have needed to pluck Groves instead of Merling. The proper priority was the bigger guy.

I really do love our rookies. Although i will admit that i really loved the Beck pick last year. Maybe in another situation he will prove me right, but i think I missed on him as a Phin. I think the worst thing that could happen is Henne playing in any other situation but garbage time. We need him to sit back and LEARN. I have heard some on this board and some journalists floating the idea that he could be a competent starter his rookie season based on his pre-season. I love what i have seen out of him, but it is only pre-season. Vanilla defenses and limited blitzes, stunts ect. I really think he needs to be on the sideline and learning. So I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that Pennington stays healthy.

Let's Wait Awhile Please!!!

I think it's way WAY too premature to even talk about this being the best draft we ever had! C'mon we havn't even played a regular season game. I'd say wait at least until the halfway mark of the season when all the REAL bullets are flying and see how these rookies react to even start talking about draft class! JMHO!!!
