Could this work?

Restructuring a contract involves converting current year's salary into a bonus, and then spreading that bonus out over the remainder of a contract to alleviate the current years cap hit. Being that he only has 1 year left on his contract, "restructuring" isn't an option. I think what you guys are talking about involves voiding his old contract (essentially waiving him) and offering him a new contract at a reduced rate. If so, he could refuse and that will allow him to test free agency.

this is the same old thing about people thinking pay cut and restructure are synonymous.

i think what he is referring to is approaching him about a paycut, which would essentially ask him to reduce his salary from 5whatever million to the cost of his replacement... if he refuses, you cut him. if he accepts... you are no worse off than if you had cut him in cap terms.... but only if we actually want to keep patterson over another player (his replacement).

IMO hes as good as gone.

Patterson average like 1 pick every 4.25 quarters played :)

I don't like Talib really. He has his own injury issues and other well-documented problems. "Ice up son"

Nobody is going to pay Patterson $5.4m next season, he knows it and we know it.

Healthy, Patterson is worth more than that, but who's going to take the risk? We should be able to resign him for less which would be a good deal all round. I for one want to keep him in Miami for another season to see if he has put his injury issues behind him.

$5mil/season is pretty much the going rate for starting CB's in free agency....and I'm not even talking good CBs, just average ones. Even Sean Smith will be making that. I think people forget its 2014, and its not 2004 anymore. Prices have gone up for premium positions.

Clemons really isn't that bad, keep him until we are in position to draft our own Earl Thomas

It still pains me that we traded out of that spot...I wanted Earl Thomas so bad. I like the Pee Wee Herman dance, but would have rather drafted Thomas.
