Countdown Days Until Opener.

Figured it would be good to start a thread where we post something daily until we are finally at opening day. I'll go first.

"69"...... One of my favorite numbers.....

Maybe my optimism is getting away from me, but I'm having visions of "greatest show on turf" type offensive outputs. Granted, we don't exactly have a Marshall Faulk in our RB room, but collectively they have a pretty diverse skillset. After all, Kurt Warner seems to think pretty highly of what we have assembled here.

Our receiving corps could literally keep DCs up at night if McD is who I think he is.

If we don't have that type, or close to that type of offense yet, if Tua proves to be the QB we think and hope he can be, along with as you said, McD being the HC we think he is, next off season we have a good amount of early picks to get the finishing touch of players, along with again, one of the higher salary caps. 😉

Actually, we have the 5th worst cap number for next year. At the moment we are like negative 24mil for our top 51. Of course we have no idea what the final cap # will be, but relative to the rest of the league we aren't in all that good of a position.

Wow!!! I thought I read here we were still one of the top teams.

Oh well, I guess wait and see what the final tally will be after the season.

Yeah, it's hard to say exactly where we are at until next years official cap number is established. It is definitely going up, maybe substantially. I believe we also still have 15+ million we can roll over if we end up not using it.

Saw that yesterday and wasn't thrilled. We can't really spend much more this season.

The good news is that we don't have any bad contracts. The bad news is that we don't have any bad contracts we can dump.

Christian Wilkins is slotted to make 10.7M next year on his 5th year option, you can probably halve that number with an extension.

Hunter Long needs to step up because Mike Gesicki is going to the Giants next off season.

Excellent point on Wilkins. It would mean a big signing bonus to be spread over the length of the deal, but Wilkins is one guy I am not worried about doing that with.

AFA MG, I guess it depends how you look at it, and how he fits with the offense. Optimum would be Long filling that role, but lets be honest. MG is a top 3-5 receiving TE. How likely is it that Long is that caliber? If I had to guess, I would say MG moves on after this season though. To the Giants? That's too specific to comment.

LOL at the Giants comment. Big Mike loves the Jersey shore and he's from North Jersey. Jets just signed CJ Uzomah so Gesicki won't be on their radar, Giants need talent anywhere they can get it. That's the basis for my prediction. Yes it's very specific but if you wouldn't have mentioned it, no one would remember next year when I was wrong......but if I am right, well you know I am ****y so you know I'd keep bringing it up. He's going to sign a big contract with a bad team. I know MG REALLY wants to be a Dolphin for life but he's too one dimensional to be a reason we have a tight cap as the window opens on a new deal for Tua. Never say never obviously, too many variables involved.

But if I were betting on him staying or going, it would be going. I am a fan of big Mike's though so I am not eager to see him go. I was a fan long before he became a Dolphin and he hasn't disappointed. Especially as a team leader, that would be a big impetus for a new deal as well. Dude brings it. And while he was credited with only 3 drops last year, if I watched all 17 games again I'd pinpoint exactly how wrong that number is. I don't misremember drops and last year wasn't his best display of his hands.

FWIW I didn't think we'd tag him this year, so I would've lost that bet, had I made it.

I am still sour on Mark Andrews and Dallas Goedert getting passed us with that pick. I was definitely excited Mike was selected but come on, how did Mark Andrews fall to the back of the third round? A 40 time? People need to stop discounting actual production.

Unlike most others here, I say football starts August 13th when Miami plays their first preseason game. I've been waiting a long, long, time to watch Dolphins football (I mean a live game, not Game Pass; although Game Pass is great for the off-season). Sure, preseason games don't count in the standings, but IMO it's still football!
