Cowboys save $5.5 million by releasing C Andre Gurod

Normally I would agree, but this is a do or die season and Gurode became a Pro Bowler at Center under Tony Sparano in Dallas. He was switched to guard under Parcells and he stunk it up, moved back to Center and became a Pro Bowler. Sparano has been there and done that with Gurode at guard.

Not entirely correct. Gurode was moved to guard the year before Parcells arrived because of injuries. He started 8 games that year. Parcells did keep Gurode at guard before realizing he's a better center than guard.

For this reason, If Gurode is signed, it will be to play center and not guard. Pouncey will be moved to guard and Carey back to RT.

When you lose your starting job, and you are making the money Gurode was making, reworking your contract becomes the norm. No teams wants to pay a backup that kind of money. Of course if Gurode had rework his contract he might still be with the Cowboys. However he was not guaranteed to be on the final roster so why rework the contract if they might cut/release you anyway.

He would absolutley be on the roster. He never lost his job. Costa worked with the first team because Gorud was recovering from surgery. Even if Costa beat him out, which he didnt, Costa is suffering from a PCL sprain and Dallas may not have a C come opening day.

If you are gonna ride with a "I love to run the ball" mentality and Chad Henne is my guy . . . knowing both of those things, you gotta put a powerful/versatile OLine in front of them. All these cheap Dallas bargain bin collections have been garbage . . . you have a chance to go after one of your best pupils from Dallas at a reasonable price, you better damn well do your best to make that happen. This guy is an upgrade from the Bergers, Colombos, Mcquistans and Al Johnsons of the world.

Seriously signing Gurode is a no-brainer. Bring him in and teach Pouncey all the little things about playing center at the NFL level. Give Pouncey a year to build strength to handle the big guys and move him to LG now for this year maybe next. Long-Pouncey-Gurode-Incognito- Garner sounds great to me. I think Garner can get it done on the Right side. Even if we leave Pouncey at center he would be a upgrade over Carey. Either move Vernon back to RT or release him. Saves us 2.5 mil.

but you can't sit on this stuff...we've got less than 2 weeks til the opener...gurodes probably a fast learner but pounceys gonna need time to learn left guard at this level...incog would probably be a plug and play right guard..don't see much if any of a transition there

You've been saying it since the draft and I'm with you after watching Richie trying to pull. He looks like he's pulling a trailer for god sake. Gurode if signed is the best reason ever to move Poouncey to LG. I think it would actually give them the excuse to as well.

I've been saying this (word for word) since we drafted Pouncey. Keep Incognito at C to handle the big NE and NYJ guys, and move Pouncey to LG. Even as a prospect, they said he'd be the #1 guard or #1 center in the draft.

why the hell would you put pouncey at right guard??? thats assinine...a guy who lacks pop somewhat at right guard...left guard or center...preferably left guard if gurode came here

This would be the lineup I would dream of!!! Maybe Pouncey at Center and Gurode at LG, but having Garner at RT and Incognito at RG would do wonders for our running game. If we cut Carey and Columbo we should save enough money to do it. Long-Incognito-Pouncey-Gurode-Garner with Berger-Jerry-Murtha and Willis on the bench.
