Cowboys unlikely to extend coach Jason Garrett's contract

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones is not expected to extend the contract of coach Jason Garrett, short or long term, sources said Thursday.

While Jones can change his mind, Garrett will be coaching for his future in 2019, the final year of his contract.

On Wednesday, Jones was asked on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas about a potential extension for Garrett.

IMO If Jason can get the Cowboys into a decent start of the 2019 it will probably happen.

3/2/19 : Jerry on Garrett contract: Working without a net

INDIANAPOLIS -- On multiple occasions this offseason, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has heaped praise on Jason Garrett, but it has not altered his mind about giving his coach a new contract.

Garrett enters 2019 on the final year of a five-year, $30 million deal he signed in 2015. That contract came after the first time he was coaching for his future and directed the Cowboys to a 12-4 record and a spot in the playoffs.

If Jones loves Garrett so much, why wouldn't he give the coach a longer deal?
