If you are not going to run the QB and you do not have also a back up QB who can run, stop using the spread option formation 96% of the time. If you want to be serious about running the ball (and I think we should) then find a fullback and run the ball from the I or Power I formation more often. A plus about this is that now you can really have real play action passes. If you watch Tom Brady you will see his favorite PA pass is one where he completely turns around which totally hides the ball. This is one reason his stats on PA passes is unreal. And here is a big one for me. If it is 3rd and 8, attempt a 9 yard pass. If it is 3rd and 12, attempt a 13 yard pass. If it is 3rd and 17, attempt a 18 yard pass. I'm so tired of us not even trying to get a 1st down.

I saw a stat that our air yards against distance to go were among the best in the NFL on 3rd down, believe it or not.

If you watch a lot of football, you will see that the most popular play on 3rd and long is a screen pass and that throws short of the sticks are common. Not that this excuses running a 3 yard crosser on 3rd and 5, but it is what it is.

IMO our biggest problem on third down is pass protection. You can just predict the sacks at this point.

It seems like Ryan doesn't want to run. It would help if he ran more.
