Ok first off i want to win the division just as much as any of you but the meadowlands is a hard place to play so say next week baltimore loses to a hungry dallas team... we obviously would have to beat the chiefs but then that means baltimore would no longer hold the WC spot.. Miami would but in order for us to keep that even if we lose in NY we would need Jacksonville to upset baltimore in week 17 which probably wont happen but anything is possible...

one other question say miami and NE finish with the same record.. who gets the WC spot??

Just a few things to think about...

I think we also need to worry about New England if we loose a game...even if the Ravens loose a couple.

I think if NE loses to buffalo and we are both 10-6 ( do they still play one more?) then we get the WC spot

I think so...but the thread did not include the Patsies, so I wanted to make sure they were in consideration since they are tied with us right now.

The wild card won't be decided until week 17. There are to many possibilities. I don't see a wild card from the east only us as the Champs and #3 seed.

Division title = we need to win out
WC = need Ravens to lose next 2 and NE to lose week 17 at Buffalo

That's pretty much it.

On a side note, does anyone know if a team has ever gone 11-5 and missed the playoffs? It would be deliciously satisfying if we win out and so does NE, yet they miss out on the playoffs.

Actually I think the East has a decent chance at a WC, especially the Patriots.

OK...question about your WC scenario. We are in if we beat KC and lose to the Jets based on your above situation?

if NE and us end up with the same record i think we get unless the jets loss makes them have a better record in the division

Yes in 1985 the Bronco's were 11-5 along with the Jets and Patriots. The Jets and Patriots got the wildcard and The Bronco's didn't make the playoffs while an 8-8 Cleveland team made it as division winner.

My bad. I forgot the Ravens lost today. I believe the Pats get a wildcard if they win out and the Ravens lose to either Dallas or Jax. Not sure what the status of the tie break between the Jets and Ravens is. For the Fins, if they lose to the Jets, it will take the Bills to beat the Pats and the Ravens to lose to Dallas and Jax.

We need to win our division because there is too many improbable things that would have to happen for us to get a wildcard spot

The problem with a wildcard is that it's coming down to needing specific games to go our way, rather than just one or two out of a larger group. We need the Ravens to lose their last two for sure, plus one of two other things:

If we lose to the Jets, we'd need the Bills to beat the Pats. (We then finish #2 in the division behind NY.)

If we lose to the Chiefs, we'd need the Seahawks to beat the Jets. (We then finish #2 behind the Pats.)

Edit: The last line above is incorrect. I posted it without double-checking. If Baltimore loses its last two, Miami can lose to KC and get a wildcard no matter what else happens. We'd still finish #2 in the division behind the Pats, winning a 10-6 tiebreak with the Jets, and taking the wildcard over the 9-7 Ravens.
