It's amazing how mad people can get over EVERY move. You would think we cut Wake & Dansby it's a back up LB that is coming off an ACL tear. People act like they are the ultimate talent evaluators like they attend every practice & know that Edds is this amazing player, who knows Spitler maybe better on ST. I liked Edds & hopes he lands on the practice squad but it doesn't doom the outcome of our season.

Its all about being right to some people. They fall in love with a player see him play all of 15 plays and start making roster decisions...when their guy gets cut they freak out.......as Clint would say to them "you're a legend in your own mind"

I didnt think he was that impressive at all during the preseason. I know he had a couple games where he had a bunch of tackles, but he didnt really seem to impress all that much, especially in coverage.

It's not really about him getting cut. It's about inferior players kept instead of Edds. FO was constantly raving about Edd's cover skills and now all of a sudden a former 4th rd pick is cut. Obviously they kept the fans in the dark about something.

I will say I was very disappointed to see Edds get cut, I thought he played extremely well in the preseason, but with the signing of Burnett his coverage skills weren't needed as much. If I had to guess I would say the decision was made primarily because of Spliters special teams value

I'm the first person to criticize this front office because they have made a lot of dumb moves over the last few years, even some of the moves on cut day pissed me off a little bit like getting rid of will allen over nolan carroll who has gotten smoked in every pre-season game, not cutting jerry, and handing the RT job over to statistically the worst RT in the NFL last year, but the Edds move doesn't bother me, he has upside but we needed to add O-Line depth in cook and we desperately needed a TE who can stretch the field and we got that in Rosario, Marvin Mitchell has showed he is decent in pass coverage as a backup LB and Burnett, Misi, and Dansby are all good in pass-coverage, so the move of cutting Edds does not bother me at all.

I will point out, that in several cases prior, we have seen similar things going on.

Everybody was wondering WTF is up with Donald Thomas..well, he's cut.
Everybody was IRATE that we cut Matt Roth..well, he's not that good it turns out.
Everybody was IRATE when we cut Chris Chambers....not soo good....

The list goes on and on and on..... Truth is (And I'm as guilty as anybody) we do as fans, think we study hard and know more about these guys than those in charge that are with these guys day in and day out. They know more about these kids than we do about our own.

With Edds. I was ESTATIC when we drafted him. Loved him at Iowa and I really thought he was a great pick up. Turns out, he might not be all that special at all, only time will tell.

I am upset they cut Edds, but I do understand that it is a business and you have to go with the best fit for your team. To the naked eye it looks like a mistake to cut Edds over Spitler, but I am sure the guys who work with these players everyday have a good reason behind it. Besides special teams, Spitler and Edds were not going to contribute a whole lot this season, but still is a bit of a head scratcher.

You're gonna have to work VERY hard to sell me on the bolded part. I just got done watching the Cowgirl game for the 4th time. Mitchell CERTAINLY was not a good linebacker in that particular game...quite the opposite actually.

It is not as simple as you make it sound. It is a reflection of the frustration regarding developing young talent, making bone head moves over the years, and most of all, just missing the playoffs too much. I am not a talent evaluator and never will be. As a fan I look for ulitmate results. You trust those paid to do it. For some time the production hasn't been there. I acutally understand more so why Edds was cut. Mitchell actually outperformed him, not Spitler. Edds and Spitler play entirely different positions. Edds is a Wil posltion lb, Mitchell is a Wil position lb, Spitler is a Mike position lb and backs up Dansby.
Losing Edds is yet another draft pick gone in a short period. Jerry could easily be gone as well and he was a 3rd round pick.
Years of poor drafting , or poor player evaluation, or whatever leaves a touchiness to some of us die hards. I have been a fan for over 40 years. I will never have the inside on players. But like you I see the results. And like Tony has stated, all of us have in common the disappointment with expecting more.

Edds was really beat out by Mitchell who plays the Wil like Edds. Spitler backs up Dansby at the Mike.
