Well, well, well..I guess the FO braintrust agreed with those of us who really saw Mr. Crowder as a real necessity to this team...

The aloof disinterest in retaining the young star was really a giant smoke screen after all, a feeling that I had in my heart all along. I posted a thread a short time ago that generated alot of opinions...some agreed with my viewpoint, and others...well let's just say that I would be surprised if they are still Dolfans after the venom that they spewed in protest of his possible resigning...

(Just kidding about the last statement, people that disagree with my viewpoints are just as much Dolfans as those that do!!!...)

I admitted the fact that only time would tell which viewpoint would prove to be aligned with the mindset of the FO...and I will admit, it didn't look good as the two sides appeared to be far apart on Mr. Crowder's worth...

But not only did Bill & Co. resign him before he hit the market, they did it before signing Bell...a real surprising move for most. But if you think about it, it makes sense though. Reports that YB and the team are very close to reaching a deal gives credence to the FO's acknowledgement that they had to get Channing back in the mix before there was a real bidding war for the rising star's services.

Another point to the character of Crowder is the fact that he resigned dispite his agent wanting him to test the free agent market. How's that for all the posters that were literally "slamming" the man for wanting to make the dough "he earned"!!...Hopefully they realized the error of their ways about him and can find it in their hearts to apologize "in spirit" at least.

Now that the braintrust has shown where their loyalties lay, I will be officially naming this the "Crowder Dowder's Celebration Thread"...for all to share in the excitement of keeping a young, rising talent with the team!

Now fair warning to you "haters"!...It has now been proven which viewpoint on Channing Crowder that the people in charge have, and it lends credibility to those of us that understood his importance to the progression of this defense...On this particular topic, we were right!...

It is now easy to see how important "just making tackles" is to Parcells and Ireland...so enjoy a little "crow" with your morning coffee "haters", as myself and other Crowder supporters enjoy the "sweet" taste of progress with ours!!!..

How was it a smokescreen? They signed him before FA began so made no effect on any other teams.

I'd have said they were probably just holding firm on money with a take it or leave it offer that Channing ended up taking.

I'm not completely thrilled by this news in honesty, depending on the terms. I'd be very interested to know what he'll be earning. I think we could've got better and cheaper in the draft.

IMO the crop of ILBs available, be it in FA or the draft, wasn't very enthralling at all. i would like to know how the contract is structured, but i think we made a smart move by bringing back Crowder.

Your opinion is valid but I'm glad the FO saw that he's worthy of sticking around. I like Crowder and think he'll get better with more talent on defense. I'm stoked for you Mr. Crowder. Now go out and have a break-out season and make us proud. I'm thinking he will!

Apparently the people that really "do" know player value and worth to the system don't agree with your position...

I would call making a "lowball" offer to a player that they knew they wanted, then not coming back to the table for weeks...a smoke screen!

Sorry to see you're so dissapointed..."Hey Flo!, one order of hot crow for Mr. Phinglish at table #3!"...

The way things work here is simple, the players earn the respect of our front office with what they do everyday at the training facility and on the field, and they are kept on the team, when you have productive players who understand the high demands that this team expects, can deal with pressure and produces with wins, you resign them, THESE PLAYERS ARE CALLED PARCELLS GUYS

One thing about Crowder . . . the man was really underpaid (obviously nobody in the NFL is underpaid, but compared to other players he was) and he did nothing but be solid in 4 years with Miami. I hated the way people were getting on him and I am glad he was retained. He deserved his payday and I'm glad he got it here in Miami.

I have to agree with greasy here. I said the same thing in a previous thread. Our FO was in the "wait-and-see" mode until after the combine. They wanted to see what talent was availble at that position before they made a final decision. Personally, I was in favor of re-signing him. I agree with the nay sayers that he doesn't make enough big plays, but I do appreciate the the things he does that is underappreciated. Bottomline is he's 27 years old, just reaching his prime, it's smart to re-sign him since there isn't much better out there.

Crowder actually turned 25 in december

I completely agree that there where many extreme cases of Crowder sentiments.

I believe most level headed fans, were looking for an upgrade. Regardless of your feeling on Crowder I do not think anyone would classify him as an elite ILB.

During our 2 months of speculation, people were looking at Dansby, Scott, and even Ray Lewis as upgrades to Channing. Many rumors had Crowder looking for Top LB money, and believe many were saying to look at "elite" prospects for the same (or a bit more) money. Basically all those wells have run dry. To say the least they "drank our milkshake."
It was coming down to money, and the value tied up in Crowder. While I have yet to see specifics on the contract the rumor is 3 yrs ~20mil and only a fraction of it guarenteed. That is much cheaper then any of those 3LB's will sign for, I guarentee that. Heck we payed Torbor $5 mil last year during FA. The current exhange rate of Lewis's to Torbor's is 1:20.5

Basically I think many of the logical posters (myself included) were just looking for an upgrade to ILB for the money which was rumored to be demanded. A reasonable contract seems to have been signed, and I for one am happy to have one less hole to fill via draft or FA. Many just did not want to overpay for his services.

I also do not believe this does not deter us from drafting a LB early in the draft.

Crowder is my favorite ''off the field'' player. Funy as hell and he masters sarcasm like no other. On the field I agree he doesnt make enough game changing big plays but he's 25 and still learning the inside game in a 3-4. He's a reliable solid tackler and by getting a new contract, something tells me he must be a parcells type player, and that alone makes him a player you want on your team.

I said it before and I;ll say it again.
Crowder is a productive LB
Not the best far from the worse.
When you have a player like that you keep him.
I have to disagree with some of your comments about us holding firm. I don't think that happened. Crowder would have tested the market and gotten good money for the simple fact that there are so many teams moving to a 3-4 this year and will need LB with production.
I think it came down to bart scott. If he reaches an agreement with Baltimore today and Crowder did not agee to terms with Miami. Crowder would have been the most sort after MLB in FA and the front office did not want to take that risk of someone offering Crowder some crazy amount of money that he could not refuse.
