Ok, so I was reading stewart mandel's article on CNNSI (I know I know) about overrated and underrated prospects for each position. Then it links the article he did last year, so I go read that. At the linebacker position, underrated was Lofa Tatupu, who had a great year, yes. For the overrated player, it was Crowder from Florida.

In hindsight, we all know he was a steal in the third round. What was Crowder projected as before the draft. Was he supposed to go in the 1st? Even then, in hindsight, is he overrated even in the 1st round?

He was projected as a 1st rounder... and talent wise... he was definatly not overrated...

With our first 3 picks last year we got three players who, at one point or another, were projected to go in the 1st round.

3 First round talents with the first three picks. Not bad at all.

Not to mention, the first pick was and is considered by many to have been the best player overall in the draft.

How can a projected 1st rounder drafted in the third be considered overrated???? And with that how can any lb taken in the 3rd and started a majority of the year be considered overrated??? :groucho:

Crowder was originally thought to be a first round pick. But he slid down the board as injury and disciplanary problems surfaced. There was no doubt he was a first round talent, but inevitably he slid. If anything, by draft day he was actually underrated.

That article was before the draft, so maybe the author felt that he was overrated as a 1st round pick. But he slid to the 3rd so we know he was a steal. I was wondering in hindsight, was he even overrated as a 1st round projection?

doesnt really matter now. he performed extremely well last season and should continue to improve. he'll be solid for years.

Whoa, this is confusing.

Mandel was right, Crowder was overrated. Everybody rated him as a 1st rounder, but he fell to 3rd round.

Mandel was wrong, Crowder was underrated. He went in the 3rd round and will be the anchor of our defense for years to come.

He was proyected like the last pick on the 1st round for NE in many mock drafts; but the injuries and problems with the law makes him fallin' down (good for us)

might be the same for cromartie, kiwi, hali, moss, watson. this guys could fall due to injuries workouts and size. would not be surprised if cromartie goes 2nd or if kiwi falls to late 2nd/early 3rd.

the guy is a beast and is being mentored by one of the greatest if not the greatest in the league... crowders big tall strong and loves to play the game..all that from a 3rd rounder who cares hes on his way to being great

Channing Crowder hunts wild boor with a knife. He runs them down on foot. How can someone that does that for FUN, be underrated.

Crowder is a beast who will be starting and destroying opponents next year, so the Opinion of some SI guy over a year ago really doesn't matter. underrated/overrated isn't the issue anymore, the only thing that matters is that he'll be wearing Aqua and orange for many years to come
