Vikings | Team has more time to deal with Culpepper
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 19:37:30 -0800
Adam Schefter, of the <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/77/nfl">NFL Network, reports the Minnesota Vikings are still convinced a trade will be completed shortly involving QB Daunte Culpepper. The team has been given some additional time to work out a deal, as well. Originally, Culpepper was due a $6 million roster bonus payment Friday, March 17, but when the start of the NFL calendar year was pushed back, so was the deadline to pay Culpepper's bonus. It now is March 24, meaning the Vikings have at least 10 days before they have to pay any money to their quarterback.

Not sure how important it is, but I think it takes some of the pressure off the Vikings. I would have like to see if they released Culpepper and we could take a look at him as a FA. Might give us even more leverage with Brees.

Trade wise, I don't think it makes that much of a difference. If Brees chooses the Saints, you can bet Saban pulls the trigger on Daunte.

Ya Saban is grabbing a QB before Friday anyways but it does give reassurace to the Vikings if we keep getting jerked around by Brees and we don't get a deal done!

Problem is that if Brees goes to NO then the Vikings are not under a tight deadline so they can demand more. They know that Saban would be under a tighter timeframe then them so they can sit back.

If the roster deadline was Friday it would give the Vikes more incentive to get a deal done.

this wasn't recent news to the Vikings, they have known for quite some time
