OK, this MAY have been mentioned already, and if it was I apologize but there are so many threads to keep up with here that it's way to hard to read them all. Anyway, here's my thought:

I'm watching NFL Live (might have been yesterday, can't remember) and John Clayton was reporting on the Raiders QB situation. He was saying they are looking at a guy like Tim Rattay to fill the QB need right now and possibly take a guy like Trent Edwards in round 2 (or whenever) as their "QB of the future". He was saying they'd also be interested in Daunte Culpepper but won't know if he is available or not before the draft (because it depends on us getting Trent Green and it's not looking like we'd know that til at LEAST draft day) so if they can't sign Tim Rattay then they will draft Russell because they need a QB, even though it looks like they want Calvin Johnson, they aren't going to take him if the QB situation isn't set.

So here's my proposal. Since the Raiders seem to favor Calvin Johnson (going by Clayton's report, which for the sake of this thread we will assume is the case) but won't pick him if they don't fix the QB situation, what if we offer Daunte in a trade? I am not even going to try and predict what round pick we can get for him, but any pick we do get will be the 1st of the round. Now, we pretty much KNOW we are getting Green, be it today, during the draft, after the draft, or when he gets released around training camp, and if we are targeting Quinn (or another QB) in the draft, that gives us our veteren presence plus the rookie QB as the future, so we have no need for Daunte (who is most-likely going to be cut as soon as we acquire Green), so why not try and trade him to Oakland now, which helps us in TWO ways.

First, it gives us an extra pick (or however many we can manage to get) for him instead of just releasing him for nothing later. This would allow us to add extra depth (or even need, depending on the pick(s) we get) or even give us some extra firepower to use in a trade to move up should we be targeting a player higher up (Quinn higher than #6 for example). No matter what we do with it, something is a lot better than nothing.

Second, it would allow Oakland to take Calvin Johnson (which we will be in no position to get either way), which would have BOTH QBs being available to Cleveland at #3, and if the rumors are correct they would pick Russell (if not Peterson), allowing Quinn to be available at #6 where we could complete the Washington trade. Then we would have our franchise QB (to everyone who doesn't want Quinn, just ignore this, because we don't need 29857 more posts about how he sucks cuz he never won a big game, this is a hypothetical scenerio based on the assumption that we are targeting Quinn), extra pick(s) from the Culpepper deal, plus the veteren Green at some point to run the offense for a year or two and mentor Quinn.

Hell, if it went down like that, we wouldn't need to use the picks from the Culpepper deal to move up, since we could get him at #6 with just our 1st and 3rd, so we could even use that pick in the Trent Green deal to ASSURE we get Green. If you think about it, say we get a 2nd for Culpepper (hypothetically, just because that is what we paid for him), and a 2nd is what KC wants for Green. Normally I wouldn't give that up for Green, but that would mean we have THREE 2nd rounders. We could use 2 in the draft (obviously we'd use Oakland's 2nd and our 2nd, as they are #33 and #40 overall) and trade the 3rd (prolly the pats #60) to KC for Green. In theory it's basically be swapping Culpepper for Green, as we would have paid and recieved the same for Culpepper.

Anyway, that's just a scenerio I was thinking of that I hadn't seen mentioned yet, what does everyone think?

I believe that was somewhat where the dolphin brain trust was heading before PEP declared that he was unable to participate in the mini camp. Because PEP can't play now or perhaps come july, his trade value is nada and that probably diminishes the raiders interest in him. Good analogy though, thanks.

Not even speilman would give up a second for Duante let alone the 33rd pick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I was a GM, I wouldn't give up a bologna sandwich for Duante!!

I didn't say it would be a 2nd, I said I have no clue what his value would be given last season and his lack of mini camp participation and all that, but I said we will use a 2nd rounder as the hypothetical example, only because it's what we paid. But even a 7th rounder is better than nothing.

I think if Russell is available at the #2 Detroit takes him. I think Josh McCown thinks this as well and that is why he wants to be traded.

I like the idea of trading Culpepper for a draft pick, but I doubt the Raiders would give up 2nd round pick. I'm guessing we would have to settle for a 4th or a 5th round pick.

I wouldn't give up more than a 7th round pick for Trent Green, since he's 37 and near the end of his career and he'll be released before training camp anyway. KC can either accept a 7th round pick for Green, or they can release him after the draft and get nothing for him.

I really hope the Raiders pick Calvin Johnson, since that would increase the chances of Quinn sliding. I'm affraid of what Cleveland might do. Most of the buzz I've been hearing has Cleveland either taking Peterson, Quinn, or Russell (if available).

I know these seem to be the logical scenerios (nothing more than 7th for Green, Culpepper isn't worth 2nd rounder, etc) but I was just presenting an alternate. As I said, I don't think Culpepper fetches a 2nd, it was just a number to throw in given that's what we paid. And I do not want to give up more than a 7th for Green either (prolly willing to give up a 6th actually, but that's as high as I go) but the scenerio I named would basically be like swapping Culpepper for Green, and still leave us with two 2nd rounders. That would be the ONLY case in which I'd be OK with giving up anything higher than a 6th for Green.

You'd be lucky to get a 5th for Culpepper. But yes, there is every indication that we're getting Green.. it can't get any more obvious. I would be comfortable trading Culpepper just to have a better shot at Quinn.

It's a somewhat risky move for Mueller, but then again, that's how GMs become legends.

I totally agree, we will get green, offer a trade, hope OAK will bite, they take CJ and we have a chance and Quinn, even at #4 because TB will want to trade down since CJ will no longer be there!
