Why are some of you so pigheaded about Daunte starting? He isn't healthy...everyone knows it. Our OL is hideous...everyone straight blitzes with blood in their eyes, and they are going to be drawing blood soon.

Why risk ending Daunte's career with another serious injury or confidence killing season? He has a health problem...use it and bench him. Play Harrington...maybe he stinks it up too, but at least Culpepper won't be killed, and who knows, Harrington's style might work better behind this pathetic OL.

It is not like keeping Daunte on the field is going to create some magic turnaround and yield a string of wins....

I'm only 1-2 games away from calling for benching Daunte, but not yet. Bench the entire OL. And HOuck along with them. Bench Mularky, he stinks.

i dont see what hes doing thats hurting our team so much? hes not calling the plays, and hes not passing the balls if recievers aren't open, and even if you want to blame him for 2 of the sacks... tahts only 2 sacks, every QB gets sacked now and then, even the ones behind the great olines that we clearly dont have...

what do you want him to do? pass it to people who aren't open? audible every play so we're not doing ******ed **** at ******ed times? throw a ball in 1 second even with guys draped over him as hes being sacked?

what will harrington do tahts any different? maybe force balls in and then throw more picks and really hurt us so games aren't even close?

i dont see what benching culpepper would do at all... i dont see that as the problem it has nothing to do with me being a supposed "Culpepper fan" ima fan of everyone on this team, so i want whats best for them, and i dont see how sending in joey is going to change anything...

yes, my friend, you're on the money. if somebody has the video of chambers end around, you'll see CPEP leading the way favoring his bad leg. this coaching staff needs a lobotomy. Hell, the defensive coach we got rid of (Richard Johnson) is now their coach and he got our number! We can't play any worse but the schedule gets worse. Like Yosemite Sam said: "Hold onto your lug nuts, we're goin for an overhaul!"

This is my post from one of the other 5,000 why start Daunte threads:

You want a serious answer and I'll give you one. The thing is that Saban doesn't really care about winning this season. Yeah I know this makes a lot of people on here want to cry and whine because were not doing well this season, but you have to look at this team as a puzzle. When we went 4-12 we were a mess. This team was a disaster. When Saban got here he started to impliment his program into the vets that we had that were willing to buy into the program. That is step 1. Then we start getting players that fit into Sabans system. This is step 2 which we are still in. Then you let those players get comfortable with each other. The biggest reason why you are going to see Culpepper play for the rest of the year. This year isn't about winning, its about Culpepper becoming comfortable with his recievers and playcalling. That is step 3, which we are also still in. Finally the last step, were going to have the players we need, with the mentality that they need, and in systems that we need, and finally the chemistry that we need.

This team is a 4 year project from when we were 4-12. I know that there are a lot of teams that go 4-12 to 12-4, but Saban is trying to build this team for the future so that we'll be good for the next 10 years instead of just the next 1 or 2. It really sucks right now, and the fact the media made it sound like we were going to the superbowl this year didn't help. This team is under construction still, but its almost finished. What we have right now is really ugly and dirty, but when its done and all polished up, its going to be pretty to watch.

I am believe 90% of the issue is the oline. However, for the first time I will say that assuming Harrington has the quicker release and Pep is hurting I could live with trying it.

Daunte not only holds the ball TOOOO long, but he watches one receiver - projecting where he's going to throw the ball.

Further he doesn't challenge in one-on-one situations on the outside, and continually dumps off the ball instead of bringing it downfield.

He should get rid of the ball between 4-5 seconds. That's good enough to get a WR 40 plus yards downfield.

If we start challenging downfield, they have to stop blitzing. Or get beat.

With Gus Frerotte starting we would be 3-1 right now.

I like Daunte, and it surely is not his fault if we're 1-3

You're right...it isn't ALL Daunte's fault, but that doesn't mean he isn't a large part of the problem.

Answer the following honestly:

1. Is Culpepper healthy?

2. Is Culpepper recognizing blitzes properly?

3. Is Culpepper getting the football out of his hands promptly?

4. Is Culpepper showing confidence?

If you answered "No" to those questions, then you are able to put aside your biases and honestly assess the situation for Daunte right now.

Now, a couple more questions:

1. Is our OL one of the worst in the league?

2. Has Daunte been sacked 20 times in the first four games?

3. Does our schedule get harder from here?

4. Is the current projection of more than 76 sacks this season putting an already injured Daunte at serious health risk for the future?

If you answered "Yes" to those four questions, then you should no longer have any excuses for wanting Culpepper in the game. If this QB is to be our future, let's get him healthy. Sit him and play Harrington...which is exactly what he was brought here for...to start until Daunte is healthy. To keep Culpepper in is going to create more losses while potentially ending his career.

Cpep.. and the rest of the offense has to make plays.. dropped balls... missed blocks... overthrows... bad reads amd decisions isnt playcalling... We need players who just damn well make plays..

I don't think Daunte is hurt. He just seems to be holding onto the ball too long (especially considering the o-line he's got), which probably has a lot to do with a new system, new playbook, new team, and being rusty from not having played since his injury. I've gone through the blame game in my mind (Daunte, the o-line, the recievers) and I think I've settled on Mularkey as being the biggest culprit in our bad offensive play. I'm surprised Saban doesn't take over play calling himself. Did anyone notice how much more effective Daunte was in the no huddle out of the shotgun? Maybe he should always play out of the shotgun! He also looked more effective throwing out of the pocket. Moving the pocket might be helpful until the o-line can get it together.

I wonder how Daunte would play if he had one of those visors on his helmet like Michael Vick has. If Daunte feels comfortable with it, maybe it would help keep him from giving eyeball clues to receivers that he's trying to track going downfield. DBs really do watch the QBs eyes and the eyes of the receivers for clues all the time. Some DBs can race to the receivers faster than the time it takes for the ball to get there. Maybe Chambers and Booker could try to be a little stealthier with their eyes and their jumps too. Just a thought.
