Culpepper status! A+/ other tidbits

Nice Article

Although he isn't participating in this weekend's rookie minicamp

He isnt a rookie or a FA battleing for a roster spot I wouldnt really expect him to......

So he's 75% right now? That's not bad progress considering how much time we have left before the season starts. I think now we start looking at being able to play in some preseason games.

I think that's a little TOO optimistic. It's great he's up and running now, but (especially if we get Harrington) we should let him take it slowly. Don't want to run the risk of hurting him even more. I still expect C-Pep to be out until at least week 3, just for cautionary mesaures.

Also from the article, for all those who were SO SURE Nick had or has plans of trading Ricky. Chew on these words from Nick.

CFL looks unlikely

The Canadian Football League might not be in the plans the Dolphins and Ricky Williams are formulating for how the suspended running back will spend his year away from the team.

Saban said he expected to speak with Williams on Friday to discuss Toronto's offer to sign him for the upcoming season. Agent Leigh Steinberg didn't return a telephone call seeking comment.

"We want Ricky back on our team," Saban said. "Ricky doesn't need to go to Canada to prove anything to us ... If we just wanted to trade him, it would probably be a good thing for us to say, `Go up there and gain 2,000 yards and we'll get rid of you.' But that's not how we feel about it [or] what we want to do."

Now I'm not a point the finger and say; I told ya so, kind of person, but considering some of the BS I caught from some of the know it alls on this board....

Right, because Saban would never create a smoke screen so other teams aren't sure what we're going to do.

I think every thread on finheaven is destined to have the word "smokescreen" in it.

That wouldn't be a smokescreen, that would make it a lie, something I don't think he has yet done.

Well, I'm one of the know-it-alls, and if someone calls offering something of value, I'm sure Saban's parting remark to RW will be along the lines of "Don't let the door hit you in the...." JMO and I'll stick with it, but if Shanahan had offered a day one pick (and RW hadn't tested positive for a 4th time), he'd be in Denver's minicamp right now, and we'd have an OLB draftee in the 2nd or 3rd round...

Personally, I'd LOVE to hear Week 9 as the target. Look at our schedule guys....

Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Tennessee, Houston, New England, New York and Green Bay. We could be 5-2, 4-3 (worst) and be ready for a very healthy Culpepper returning.

I'm an optimist.... and that schedule is VERY winnable at 5-2 with a focused backup such as Collins, Harrington or even Lemon. Considering there are 52 other players on the team, I think Saban and Co. could game plan around an average backup QB to buy us more time for Culpepper to rehab and come back ready to produce.

No need to rush the future of the franchise OR this year. We'll be fine even if we wait until Week 9.
