I doubt seriously that Davis would choose a QB that may or may not come back from a horrific injury and regain the status he once had over Russell or even Quinn.
Even if CPep comes back this year with a vengeance, which is entirely possible, he's only really good for another 3-4 yrs before his skills start to erode, whereas Russell is good for 10 yrs. There is always the question of whether Russell or Quinn are true franchise QBs, but if Davis doesn't want to take a QB, he may even trade down.
And them giving up their 2nd rounder, which is pick #33, virtually a first rounder...I just don't see. Given CPeps situation, at best we might get their 3rd rounder and we may have to give them some sort of conditional pick next year to even make that happen. I see any trade with CPep having a conditional pick attached to it...with anyone, not just the Raiders.
While it's well known that Davis doesn't like to take QBs high in the draft, given their situation, how can he not break that rule this year ?? I just see this as a pipe dream for us...
We are destined to use CPep this year just because of what we gave up for him. That is the fiscally responsible thing to do, even tho Cam and Randy weren't calling the shots last year. I don't personally think that's a bad thing. Some people on this board have given up hope on CPep with no real cause, except that they may have been on the Brees bandwagon last year. Anyone who uses the 4 games that CPep played in for us last year as a yardstick is pretty near-sighted.
All that said, this is Cam's team now and it should surprise none if CPep is gone soon. After all, no QB is going to be successful unless we get some OL to line up in front of him. Based on the moves he made so far, seeing Cpep, Lemon, Green, Carr, Quinn, Stanton or whoever next season wouldn't shock at all...
