Culpepper to Jags?
Recent reports on the NFL Network have hinted at Jacksonville as a possible destination for Miami quarterback Daunte Culpepper, whose tenure is in jeopardy now that the Dolphins have traded for Kansas City's Trent Green.

While league rules prohibit Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio from commenting about Culpepper, because he is currently under contract with the Dolphins, one thing the coach made clear after organized team activities Wednesday is that the only way Culpepper comes to Jacksonville is as a backup to Byron Leftwich.

"We don't rule any players out," Del Rio said. "Obviously, I like our quarterback situation. I've been on record. I've said it countless times."

Instead of naming Culpepper specifically when addressing reporters about the possibility of acquiring him, Del Rio referred to him in one instance as "a quarterback south of here."

"We consider all possibilities," he said. "Right now, he's on another roster. I don't think it makes any sense for me to sit up here and talk about something that's on another roster."

Instead of discussing Culpepper any further, Del Rio preferred to rave about Leftwich's performance during Wednesday's drills, specifically the blitz portion of the workout.

Leftwich connected on several throws during the blitz period, including a long pass over the middle to receiver Dennis Northcutt.

"That's as sharp as he's looked. That's the sharpest we've looked offensively, and obviously there's a lot to be done," Del Rio said. "But I like the signs I'm seeing."

Dont post the entire article, jus basically highlight it for us then post the link

Purely coach-speak. Nobody is gonna say they wouldn't at least look at Daunte. But why would the Jags want him when they have Garrard?

Damn a team with two better Qb's than we have on our roster wants Culpepper, thats quite a stretch. I would take garrard or leftwich over anybody on our roster.

Del Rio has done a good job in Jacksonville. It will be interesting to see if they pick him up because if they do there is a good reason!

Jax is growing impatient with Leftwich lately. Injuries, lack of production, and of course his contract. To top that off, Garrard stepped in and did well. However, towards the end of the year, Garrard didnt play too well, so maybe they dont feel confident in him to be the starter. Pepp would have a good shot at starting in Jax. (if he heels) And hed still be in Florida. Plus Jax is a run first team with Taylor and Jones Drew, taking alot of pressure off Pepp to win games by himself. Its a good fit if u ask me.

Of course you would, you are negative about nearly everything Dolphin related.:rolleyes2

Trent Green has proven more than anybody on the Jags roster, and Beck is fine prospect.

I'll pass on Byron. As much as I love him as a leader and passer wise he can make ANY throw. Yet, we just dealt with an injury-prone QB, I don't want to deal with another. Garrard is up and done. There is no stability with him. He's Jay Fiedler but without the winning.

Nice analysis there. Couldn't have said it better. Neither one of those guys played well last year.

Maybe Leftwich... but not Garrard...

Garrard isnt that good...

Read between the lines. Del Rio wanted Brady Quinn pretty badly when he fell to their pick. Shack Harris, their GM, vetoed it even though Brady Quinn was high on the board, choosing instead to trade down and take the guy they guy. Shack Harris is a fan of Byron Leftwich's.

This could be seen as a bit of a compromise, because the asking price for Culpepper is only a low round pick...yet the salary is high at $5.5 million.

Hard to say how Culpepper would fair in their offense. Their receivers are real raw and screwy. They're all 6'4" basketball players...Matt Jones, Reggie Williams, Ernest Wilford, Marcedes Lewis, George Wrighster.

They just got Mike Walker, a fellow UCF alum...and the Jacksonville fan base is loaded with UCF fans.

Jacksonville has always been one of the top teams I thought could make a play for Culpepper...but back a while ago I'd been assuming they'd trade Leftwich to the Raiders.

I think the three teams talking to Miami for Culpepper are the Jags, Rams, and Patriots. That is my honest opinion.

The patriots? Now that would be something. Welker and Culpepper would make a nice practice team to go up against the ones and it also would reunite Moss and Culpepper.

But ask yourself this..........Daunte wants to start somewhere. Why on earth would he renegotiate his contract to go to the Pats where he would most certainly linger for a long time behind Tom Brady?
