we have to get some real facts on culpeppers knee. I cant beleive saban would trade a 2nd round draft pick when we could trade up for cutler.
I for one am very disapointed

Listen, we weren't getting Cutler, we weren't getting Leinart, we weren't getting Young...there is nothing we had to offer to trade up to get any one of those guys...The only way we were going to improve our QB position was through trade or FA.

I don't like giving up the pick and that is why it dissapoints me, but the chances of trading up for Cutler is a too much of a chance to take. Saban wouldn't have gone into the draft "hoping" to get Cutler...

I'm dissapointed because we gave up a pick and we still have to pay the big salary and we still have to replace the player we would have gotten with the 2nd round pick...(vs. signing a FA)...

Why give up a pick when Minny was going to be forced to cut him in a few days????

How do you know we can trade up to get Cutler? There is no guarantee in that, and in order for us to get Cutler, we would have to trade more than our first rd. pick to do so. Cutler can go as early as the #3 pick; so what will we have to give up to get him; a 1, 2, and a 4 possibly; then sign him to a top 5 contract. Trading up to get Cutler will be more expensive than trading for Culpepper. I understand people are wary about his knee. Right now, word of mouth says he is ahead of schedule and probably will be ready by Sept. I think he won't be ready till October, but at least he'll be ready to go with a health throwing arm. The deal won't be finished until he gets checked out by our doctors anyway, so I trust our staff to do their due dilligence. In my opinion, a second pick is worth Culpepper or Brees, and it's definitely better than any of the QBs we could've drafted in this year's second rd. pick.

If Willis McGahee (a top 5 RB!) can play after sustaining the same injury I dont see why Culpepper (a QB) cant do the same!

Marino played his entire career on 2 legs that we're made of glass and hes the GOAT!

Yeah I love this, whoopie we got Culpepper. We might be able to see him for the 07-08 season!!! WOO HOO!!

Horrible move I think, We better go after TO because we dont have a recieve on this team that can go up and get the ball like Culpepper needs to be successful.

I really am in shock that Saban did this without being able to evaluate his knee first. By the time we get an eval on him all the FA QB's will be gone if he doesn't pass.

This is a Rick Spielman move that seemed desperate, like we had to get either Culpepper or Brees. I would have been more happy with Ramsey, Griese, McCown, or Schaub. Somebody that we will at least get to see play next season. Basically we just signed a bench warmer for next year.

Good job guys!

the injury should not be a worry at all, there are new knee braces that will completely keep it stable, he will be able to play by camp, he is a QB not a RB or anyone that speed is important, yes his mobility will be effected for awhile maybe all this year, but you pay him for his arm and that is NOT INJURED, no one should worry about this guy if his surgery was successfull, that will be determined by his orthopedic evaluation in the next couple days, if he passes he will play in the opener, I would stake my career on it

If he's cut, then we get into another drawn out bidding war. Who wants to go through that again? If we waited for him to be release, then that would tie our hands in free agency until he is released. Then we will miss out on any other possible free agents we could sign until we sign a QB. Before we went forward to do the trade, Daunte agreed to restructure his contract that wouldn't not destroy our cap, so it was to our benefit to trade for him, instead of waiting for him to be released.

Much too much is being made of Daunte's knees. The normal healing time for his injury is 12 months, which puts him at October. Daunte is extremely athletic and ahead of schedule. He will probably be ready by September. A small price to pay for a 3-time pro bowler, from Florida, who truly wants to be here and is looking for a fresh start from the mess Minnesota has been the last few years.

Don't forget Daunte fits our system (Linehan's) far better than a health Drew Brees, much less a Drew Brees with a gimpy arm. We had a noodle arm QB who was about 6 feet tall also, remember?

Saban made a tough choice, but the right choice. Daunte will definetly be back at 100%, it is just a matter of time. Brees may never be back 100% and he didn't have much of an arm to begin with. Daunte will be much more cap friendly. Brees has an absolute jerk for an agent - Tom Condon. Daunte is representing himself. Brees is arrogant and has a chip on his shoulder, Daunte wants to put Minnesota in the rear view mirror and is hungry to play for us.

We're all a little disappointed because we thought Brees was settled on coming here and Culpepper almost came out of nowhere, so we're also in a little bit of shock and maybe angry at Brees for jerking us around. Once those emotions go away and the dust settles, you will see that Saban absolutely made the right choice.

I feel ya, but the breakdown now is pretty straightforward. Now that we've chosen Daunte over Brees we've essentially chosen free agency over the draft. Brees would have cost us a huge chunk of our free agency money but left our draft picks intact. Daunte costs us OUR SECOND ROUNDER (ouch) but with his restructured deal that he'll sign will give us considerable remaining cap room.

So now SABAN will trade down from the #16 pick and try to get 2 picks within the top 64 to replace the pick he gave away to the Vikings. Chances are the players that Nick has targeted will be available in the second round so the real problem is finding a team with 2 second round choices willing to shoot up to #16 for a special player. But make no mistake, if SABAN can trade down and get 2 picks in the second round and draft BEST AVAILABLE PLAYER each time he'll be fine.

Also, now that Daunte is on board and we have extra money in FA look for Miami to make a big push for T.O. I believe SABAN wants the draft to address the CB and Safety position as well as the young QB to come in and be #3 behind Lemon and Daunte. So look for SABAN to sign another OT (ASHWORTH) so that CAREY can play guard and unfortunately look for him to re-sign Seth McKinney (I wanna vom) as an inexpensive Center. But T.O. would make the Dolphins completely legit with DAUNTE having 2 pro bowl recievers and with us trading BOOKER on draft day for some extra picks (he has a nice, cap friendly contract) that we would use on a SPEED reciever, which we need and GIVENS would have been great at.

Then we're looking at the possibility on offense of a new LT, RT, Ricky and Ronnie in the backfield, Daunte as our #1 QB with Lemon and a rookie behind him, T.O. and Chris Chambers followed by Wes Welker and a rookie WR and of course McMike. We'd be pretty daunting.

It all depends if T.O. can be had for a reasonable price, if not then I guess not. Also, look for the Dolphins to retain MARE and for the latest talk to be just that, talk. We wouldn't have won the games we won without Mare's deep kickoffs and good accuracy last year so Mare will call the Dolphin's bluff and the Phins will honor his contract. Vinateiri will re-sign with the Pats and Vanderjagt will go elsewhere.

But we've made our decision, we have a head coach that has a vision, a real plan for us, and we've taken the first steps towards becoming real contenders.

GO PHINS!

Some of you guys must think Saban's a real buffoon.

FOLKS, THE TRADE ISN'T FINAL UNTIL DAUNTE PASSES A PHYSICAL!

If the trade becomes official, it's because we've deemed him and his knee healthy enough to give up a pick for. They wouldn't let us give him a physical before the trade, but we didn't waive that right in order to complete the trade!

In short, we won't be cutting him if he fails, we'll be getting our 2d rounder back...
