Culver & Garner Extended

These were to save money. Not.because they deserve it.

To save money on what? They added time to their contracts. Nate Garner is the #1 backup at every position on the OL, and Tyrone Culver plays ST, multiple safety spots, and did reasonably well as the Nickel sub when Yeremiah Bell moves to LB.

culvers run of the mill...he doesn't usually put himself in bad positions so you can trust him i think not to just blow things but he doesn't make any plays either...just a run of the mill guy...i don't see the reason for an extension being necessary but i doubt there was much if any guaranteed money involved anyways...no biggie

Garner I'm okay with, but Culver should've been replaced by Jimmy Wilson and we could keep Will Allen too

Did they sign for less money, like Carey?? Deserve less money or what ... so they sign new contracts?

I'm as confused as a baby in a topless bar??

It looks like they are grooming Wilson to take Sapp's spot at nickleback.

did anyone else notice they took the perfectly good and exp. right tackle (v. carrey) and s witched him out for no names? for a paycut. they paid smiley and gardnerr how much? then cut carreys pay? then signed columbo and murtha. jay cutler is pointing and laughing at our OL.

I'm fine with it. It's not like they extended Austin Spitler or anything like that. At least Garner and Culver have shown they can contribute when called upon.

I have been saying this preseason that Garner is arguably our 2nd best lineman behind Long.
I am glad we extended his contract.
He might be starting at RT by game 2.

By extending the contracts there base salary gets lower.

They just added years to contract. Money is still the same so Miami saves money and there on the team for a longer amount of time.

Gosh its hard to think what some of you are thinking at times. There are only 53 spots on the team. Both of these guys can play all the spots at their postion plus in the case of Culver special teams. In Gardners case thats 5 spots and in Culvers case 3 postions. Thats 8 positions covered. While another player might be better at one position than one of these guys but if that player can only cover one postion there is mathamatically no way to cover all backup spots on the teams roster without guys like Culver and Gardner. They are worth more than a better player that is one diminsional unless that player is vastly superior in talent. Even then you still only have 53 roster spots to cover 25 starter sports with and only 47 available on game day. What short memories some of you have too last year in the Atlanta and Pats games plus a couple of other earlier games our special teams contributed quite heavily in those losses early in the year. Speical teams is important and while I will not claim to know the status of Edds and his special teams play or that of Will Allen you can probably bet that had much of the thinking in Sporano and Irelands decision making in cutting them plus taking into account that both players were coming off injuries. Players that are on IR regardless of the talent do not help on the bench.

Plus to tie up players moving forward for your team at a very reasonable rate is very smart business, Ireland is doing a very fine job as far as this is concerned. I understand the homerism comments sometimes but some of you fans are just the opposite if these guys do anything all you can do is make negative comments. Geez
