Huizenga*
Was getting his first choice always the best? Jimmy Johnson? Dave Wannstedt? Nick Saban? Cam Cameron? Bill Parcells? Yeah, Huizenga was so much better than Ross who hasn't even made his first hire yet.:err:
Ross chased Harbaugh last year and Fisher this year. He lost out on both, didn't close, didn't give them the key to the city, etc. Unlike Huizenga, Ross seems to have boundaries and self respect and doesn't get pushed around. Saban wanted full control and Huizenga not only gave it to him, he probably also offered to wash his car and watch the kids on the weekend. Ross entered this search with how he wants HIS team to be structured and Fisher tried to come to a deal that went beyond what Ross felt was right for this team and its future, and even if he turns out to be wrong, you have to respect that. He didn't let Fisher push him over and take control of the team, he stuck to his guns. Yes it cost him Fisher, but he can still put in place the structure he wanted all along.
If this was Huizenga, you know that he would have folded to Fisher's demands and gave him everything he wanted and probably more. Basically, would have put all his chips on one person and would have sank or swam with him that could have damaged this team the way Saban and others did. Fisher is a good coach, a guy I wanted and hoped we could get. He was the the best veteran coach on the market and would have given them instant credibility. But this is not a Bill Cowher type of coach, and it has been mentioned a nauseating amount of times how he only had 6 winning seasons in 17 years.
Ross seems to have a better business mindset and isn't willing to cave to the big name demands just because they are the big name. In the long run, it might be better for this team. Let's compare Huizenga's hires to Ross' hires once Ross actually makes one.
