Have you ever wondered why we cut Hartline and Gibson yesterday? Not earlier, not later. Not one at a specific time and another on another day? Why not cut everyone you are planning to cut one day?

:idk: Gamesmanship, maybe?

Why tip your hand too early with other teams as to exactly how much cap space you'll have for impending free agents?

I too found it strange to cut both WRs on FRIDAY, and not cut the other guys who were more obvious cap casualties like Finnegan and Starks.

Finnegan is easily the most predictable cut on this team, followed by Gibson and then Starks.

Hartline surprised me a bit, I'm not going to lie. That 4.2 million in dead cap was a number I'd figure Miami would approach him about restructuring and trying to keep him on the team since him and Tannehill have built a bond on and off the field together.

the only reason was to spite me...... due to the fact they are making me wait to hear on philip Wheeler being cut.... they are making my beverage of celebration be delayed as they sit there laughing at me.

otherwise maybe they are just talking things over positionally? they could also save the most money there as well?

"you know what would be hilarious!? If we waited until the last possible minute to cut Wheeler!" Yeah idk why they decided to do it that way. They definitely tipped their hand, I don't think there's any doubt now we're in the market for a WR. Maybe we wanted to send a message to any FA wr's that we are looking? Idk. I just hope we can get a 3rd or a 2nd for Wallace. That would really change this draft. having 5 picks in the first 4 rounds of this draft could be HUGE! We could grab Parker, a MLB in the second, a CB and a guard (or someone like Phillip Dorsett) in the 3rd, then grab David Cobb in the 4th. Here's hoping we can make it happen!

Maybe they did ask but re refused?

Ozzy rules!!

I think the fact that they appear to have no suitors in a Wallace deal, and that he wasn't willing to restructure affected the timing of these cuts. Had he been traded or restructured perhaps the Dolphins intended to keep one of them.

Somewhere it was reported they didn't offer Hartline a chance to restructure.

Why is everyone so sure that Wheeler is going to get cut this off-season? Of course he sucks, but he's only providing minimal savings against the cap if he's cut. Just about $200K. You cant sign a 3rd string LB for that much money. He sure as heck isn't getting cut before June 1st. As post June 1st cut his saving would be worth it, but only then.

I think Miami wants to go through free agency and the draft, see what they end up with and then make decisions on a guy like Wheeler. One thing about Wheeler, he's been on the field . . . through the bad and worse.

yup^ exactly. They'll cut him if the scenario fits, but being that the savings is almost nothing, they won't do it if the situation isn't ideal.

That's what makes sense to me. The whole down side to June 1 cuts is you don't have that money when prime FA are available, but cutting Wheeler wouldn't help us when free agency opens up anyway. Like you said, they are best seeing who they sign early and end up with in the draft, and then he could be a cut after June 1st, perhaps to free up money to sign the draft class. The two potential cuts who save us the most money before free agency starts are Finnegan and Ellerbe.

May I add, Wheeler has been a huge part of "bad and worse"
