Not very productive, old, and could save us about a million in cap room.

With that being said, he is a decent player, but we need to get younger on the D-Line, maybe finding some sort of younger gem FA or a better veteran...but not as old.

Any thoughts?:dolphins:

every year seems like the last for Zgonina, but to his credit he keeps making the team.
I wouldn't flat out cut him right now, but I'm all for bringing in younger guys to compete with him in camp. We'll see if anyone can actually beat him to a roster spot.

that's what I meant, I didn't mean cut him outright, unless there is someone out there who looks that much more appealing to Saban & Co.

i think he is a pritty good back up !

if he is willin to get a pay cut id keep him

He still comes up with big plays on 3rd down or late in the game. He is solid as a backup and makes plays when we need him too.

No reason to get rid of him unless someone offers us a nice pick in return like a 5th or something which is unlikely at this point

He won't be on the team this year. Too old and one dimensional. Saban aspires too high to include a player like that in his second year. I'm not sure Zgonina even makes it last year minus the injury to Vickerson in the final preseason game against Atlanta.

Last offseason the two guys on my must-go list were Chester and Thompson. This year it's Zgonina and a player to be named later.

for a cheap reserve he makes a lot of difference/plays on the field. so to say he is not productive is misguided.

I think it depends on what happens in TC. He is a productive back up in my eyes that produces year in year out even though I expect him to drop off every year.

Zgonina has surprised me for years now. I had him pegged as being gone two years ago. Yet, he keeps floating back to the surface like a lil' turd. Until he proves he can no longer play his position effectively, I say keep him. At this point, he is a better option than anything else out there as a backup.

June 1st. see if anyone impresses in minicamp. if not keep him on through training camp and then reasses after preseason.

I dont think zgonina will make the roster to be honest. If he could play the NT spot i think he would be able to stick, but with us really trying to push and be a more 3-4 team zgoninia doesn't fit. At this point howard Green probaply already took his spot. (vickerson, wright, traylor) will all make the team and then we hold holliday as a DE/DT so i mean i dont really see a spot on our roster for him.

How could that not be what you meant when your thread title says "Cut Zgonina"?

Zgonina is a productive player for the number of snaps he gets. And his salary is not out of line for a player with his veteran status. We don't have much depth at the position, and I don't think we have enough draft picks to add anyone who is going to contribute right away. I bet he's still on the team come September.
