"A six-pack of eye-opening Dolphins nuggets sent to us by “Inside Edge” on Friday and some thoughts on each:

▪ Since mid-October, no NFL quarterback has been more accurate in the red zone than Jay Cutler.

Cutler has completed 73 percent of his passes (19 completions on 26 attempts) on plays in the red zone since Week 6 — best of 28 qualifying quarterbacks. The league average is 53.3 percent.

Bottom line: Cutler’s play has improved significantly in the past six weeks, and though he has a couple of red zone interceptions this season, his work there has been above average overall.

▪ The Dolphins have thrown the ball 78 percent of the time on plays in the red zone since Week 6 — highest in NFL. That’s much higher than the league average of 49.1 percent.

And they’ve completed 40 of those 51 passes."

Hard to believe this, seeing as his only good game was against the Patriots you know ;)

That actually makes alot of sense... When you consider that he just can't throw accurately beyond 10 yards anymore... The redzone should be where he's the most accurate...

Because he can't throw it past ten yards then he must be the best in the league in the redzone. No, that doesn't make any sense.

How do you figure?...Did you even watch the last game?

That’s mostly about pre snap reads. They’ve been very good which has made his primary progression where the ball has gone to. Everything speeds up in the red zone.

That and the play calling in the red has been excellent

Nevermind the fact that his comp.% drops 15-20% every chunk of 10 yards further he has to throw. Beyond the raw QB stats. Why did Landry's yard per reception drop a full 4 yards in the same offense as last year? Kenny Stills, a full 2 yards? Devante Parker 2 yards also?

The passing game's yards per attemps also dropped from 7.7 to 6.2

Yes I did watch the game, great football game that kept our season alive. But it doesnt mean Cutler's arm isnt shot, which really sucks because his decision making has been quite good from what I thought it would be...

Isn't this indicative of pretty much every QB in the league? The further you throw the riskier and less of a chance for completion.

Weve had all 3 of our QB's top rated red zone passers since Gase has been here! Yet somehow people think Gase should give up playcalling.

Yes! Cutler, is actually decent in the 0-20 yards window, beyond that it drops off significantly... So my statement about cant throw beyond 10 yards accurately isnt reflected in the stats, it's actually beyond 20. But I'd still argue that ball placement isnt good beyond 10... Which is an opinion, which is most definitely debatable ...

That's an over simplification statement. Now has Cutler miss on some throws......absolutely, but more often than not he is usually under pressure from opposing defenses especially from blitzes. The NE game was pretty good, our Oline played better, but better is a relative term, Gase realized this and played a nickel and dime passing game for mostly the whole game backed up by a good running game. The last couple of games by our Oline was the exception not the rule. Cutler is not my favorite QB by any means, but to say he can't throw accurately beyond 10 yards is not taking into consideration the entire play of the offense.

My opinion is Cutler was just playing bad and the reason he looks horrible at times is because he is throwing off his back foot more than his arm is dead. In camp people were still raving about how live his arm still is so I don't think last seasons injury is the problem.

It's not. It's really not. I'm actually tempted to go grab some video editing software because if I made a montage of all of his attempts past 15 yards downfield it would be pretty jaw-dropping how bad his downfield throws have been.

He has always thrown off his back foot. Always. That's the problem. Now that he can no longer get away with it, it's too late for him to learn how to throw the football properly.
