Today, the guillotine blade of NFL unemployment falls on more than 20 players as the Dolphins must be down to a 53-man roster by 6 p.m. The Dolphins will practice this morning at 11.

One player, running back Ricky Williams, will begin serving a four-game suspension today and will not count on the roster until he is reinstated. As a result, the Dolphins will have to make 21 moves to get down to the limit.

Among those likely to be cut are wide receiver Maurice Mann, tight end Alex Holmes, offensive linemen Rodney Reed, Eric Wilson and Jason Thomas, fullback Jamar Martin, punter Donnie Jones, defensive linemen Reggie Rhodes and Dario Romero, and linebackers Winston Taylor and Eddie Moore.

The team also is expected to reach an injury settlement with defensive end Matt Walters, who has been playing with a right shoulder injury.

I am sorry to see Winston Taylor get cut, I have followed him through the preseason. I thought he offered nice depth at LB. He has the most beutiful little girl. I sat with his folks at the hall of fame game. really too bad.

Well he blew his chances at the end of the game against Atlanta. How many passes must be dropped? Well, I guess the same could be said of Donald Lee though .....
 
WHy would Miami wanna cut Maurice Mann and Derrius Thompson? They are both very solid receivers.


But right now, i think Saban needs to look into the QB situation. We always talk about Sage being nothing but a 3rd stringer....but when he plays, he throws 10x better than most QBs. Even in Washington, he threw for like 300+ yards and 4 TDs, it was like 24/30 passing. Same thing happened last season with Miami, AND this season the other day. He had a great game. I really think he needs to be given the chance to start.
 
I thought Donnie was playing well...
 
So when do they establish whom will be on the practice squad? I'd put Donnie Jones on there myself, but on the other side I haven't put a lot of though to others that would be more important to be placed on the PS.

You dont just put a punter on the practice squad, that is a squad for guys that need to practice with the team or maybe learn the playbook a little better.
