I dont think Madison derserves to be cut ulike most phins fans. True he doesnt deserve all of the $$$ we are paying him but with our cap room if we can get a great CB (FA or Draft) i think he is great as a compliment to a all star CB like we had with Madison and Surtain

Maybe it sounds ******ed but how about moving Madison to safety? I know he's our best CB at the moment but if some things happen in the draft/FA it could be worth looking at. I just don't think Madison has the speed anymore to hang with #1's. He's real aggressive as well..so I think he'd fit well in the safety position.

Why would you move a corner who cant tackle to safty?

Exactly.

Serious Madison is a good 2nd CB. Terrible stickin their top guy, but if it were someone good and Madison it would be MUCH better than Madison and Howard. We need a #1 CB obviously, but nothin none of us can do about it except hope those who can do.

Stop cutting our more talented players especially if their salary is cap friendly (Madison's salary not so bad relatively speaking). Besides as it stands after cutting everyone with talent we will need 10 First Round Draft choices and $50,000,000 to assemble a championship team. Let me see we need: QB, WR, OL, LB, Safety, CB, and DL. Great!

Madison is still a very good cover guy. Has he lost a step? Sure but his knowledge of Wr's still makes opponents throw away from him.

As for next year don't forget that Poole will be back, and they have a heck of a good project on injured reserve as well in Shirdonya Mitchell. He may take a little time but he runs a 4.3, played Wr so he has good hands, and does not lose speed turning off his back pedal. He also has great burst which is a huge plus when playing a zone.

This is what I would do this offseason. Cut Howard and ask Madison to restructure. He can help teach the three new corners. By three I mean Poole, Mitchell, and a bonefied rookie taken in the second or third round. Of course they will need more than four but this is a good start. Madison can slowly start playing a lesser role thruout the year or the next if they do it right.

So my answer would be no, don't cut or trade him.......

So what did you think about what Saban said about the tackling in his PC?

I don't recall Saban saying any names specifically. Saban said he was concerned about the tackling on the perimeter of the defense. Last time I checked Sam Madison was'nt the only player who plays the perimeter of our defense.

And...just for kicks...here are the stats from the Browns game. I posted these in another thread but since Sam seems to be the site whipping boy...

KEEP IN MIND that Sam Madison, on about 95% of the snaps lines up on the LEFT TACKLE side of the offense.

Right end: 0 - 0 yards
Right tackle: 5 - 97 yards (the long run on the opening play started right and ended up left. Travis Daniels missed a tackle that had it at no gain then it was off to the races. The play was 65 yards old before Madison entered the play. Find me a corner that can make a play on the opposite side of the field in the running game before it gains a ton of yards.)
Right guard: 16 - 45 yards
Center: 0 - 0 yards
Left guard: 8 - 13 yards
Left tackle: 7 - 26 yards
Left end: 1 - 2 yards

I consider the corners in a playmaking position in the running game when the ball is run around the end or at the tackles. When the ball is run at the guards the corner is not in a position to make a play until the play is 10-15 yards old.

Of the 37 times the Browns ran the ball they ran it to Sam's area 21% of the time and gained 20% of their rushing yardage running it to his side.

By way of comparison, they only ran it to the other corners side of the field 13% of the time but, gained 53% of their rushing yards to the OPPOSITE side of the field that Madison lines up on.

Not the gospel by any means but food for thought nonetheless.

That would make sense, but you had to have seen the play. Madison had Droughns stopped dead and still barely got an arm on him. It was signature bad tackling for him. That being said, He is still a good cover guy, and I don't think we should cut him, even if he won't restructure.
