I've been around on this site for several months but this is my 1st post. I wanted to pos the note because I see a lot of people disappointed with our defense last night. I agree it was not the typical Dolphins defense geting after people. This is going to be something that we all get used to seeing with teh 3-4 defense. The defenese is set up not to give up the big play. You can do what every you want between the 20's but when you get into the red zone we tighten things up. Other then the long ball that Muhammed got on Howard everything else was to the back out of the back field or quick slants for short yardage. That what we want. no big plays. We played very Vanilla last night as well only showing a base man 2 defense and a basinc blitz up the middle. nothing big. As for the run defense. I saw 1 run play when jones broke free. Thats fine. The most disapointing thing about last nigh was the goal line run up the middle. Crowder got cut off and Zach was caught arm tackling. We can fix that. Be patient people. The defense is set up this way. Remember the Pat's last year. It took 4-5 weeks before people realized that the Pat's would let you run allover them betwen the 20's but things changed near and in the red zone. I hate to compare us to the Pat's but the defense is based on the principals and ran the same way.

I'd definetly agree for the most part. as i mentioned elsewhere I think that the bears game is a baseline to comapre ot, it gives aus a current state and a path on where we need to go in the next 4 weeks. Here's to praying that it can all be pulled together!!!

EDIT:

Oh and welcome, and great first post!!!!

First of all, Welcome to the board.

It wasn;t just one long pass, it was many! Including a 43 yarder from Orton for a TD. They had big play after big play, like sweeps aroung Madison for 20 yards. let's get real. No scheme doesn't mean you should get burned individually on a consistent basis, ala Howard!

Saban's D schemes better dominate upfront to compensate for your secondary or your guys will get burned by better wr's in the league. Your schedule doesn't help either.

When I was typing I was reffering to the 1 string guys. There was just 1 long ball on the 1 string guys. I agree with you Dolfan4 good. We have a very big issue with our corner position. We need to get somebody in there that can effectivly play man to man at the corner spot. But what you will most likly see come week 1 is a lot of sone blitzing much like Pit / NE.
We have 1 capable corner to play man to man we don't have 2 so you will see some over load bliting with cover 3 and 2 behind it. We just don't want to show that right now. But based on our corner play last night most teams will anticipate us doing that now.:(

Yes, but on more then once, the CB droped off into a zone and the saftey never got to where he needed to be (Bua was horrible). I hope Lance helps this (Did he play???)
